Outstanding personalized tour with Nikos! Exceeded Expectations

This was an outstanding tour with our fantastic guide Nikos today. From the start when we booked our tour months ago, Yanna with Athens Insiders was very professional and proactive with communicating with our group to help sure we booked the right time slots for the Acropolis, knew where to meet our guide, what to expect, etc. We met Nikos this morning and were immediately impressed with his professionalism, excellent English, and all around excitement to share the history of his hometown city Athens. He made the Acropolis come to life for us with additional information and background history. It is so worth it to pay a little extra for the private tour option so the group can go at your own pace, ask lots of questions, and tailor the experience to your interests. Nikos is very well educated not only on the history of Athens, but he also cleared up so much information for us about world history in general. If every young student could learn about ancient history this way they would all be engaged and excited to learn more! Nikos supplemented his talk with additional photos and diagrams that really helped us visualize and understand. We pounded him with questions and he was eager to explain and clarify. This was not a tour where the guide sticks to a standard script. After the Acropolis, Nikos spent another 2 hours with us at the museum. We were all wondering if the museum would be worth it and questioned if we really wanted to do that after so many steps up to the Parthenon and top of the Acropolis but the museum was absolutely incredible! You don’t want to miss that and there is no way we would have learned a fraction of the information we gained with Nikos if we had done a self guided audio tour or even a group tour. I’m sure that Nikos would tailor this experience to what the group wants - ours wanted to delve into the history, culture, current affairs and more so this was absolutely the perfect tour for us. After the tour we asked Nikos for a recommendation for a traditional local Greek restaurant. He walked us a few blocks to a great place off the beaten path away from the tourists. As the waitress explained, this was “grandma’s Greek food” not gyros. Exactly what we were hoping for. I was a bit worried about booking this because there weren’t many reviews. But I think that is because Nikos did not even ask us to write a review whereas so many tours these days end with the guide giving you a QR code and asking you to write a review on the spot at the end of the tour. I realize this review is quite long, but hoping it is helpful. I highly recommend this tour and the company. It was one of the best tours we’ve ever had, and we’ve done a ton. A great experience!

Yasou from Athens! Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! We’re delighted to hear your experience, both with Yanna’s support before your trip and Nikos’ passion and knowledge during the tour. It truly means a lot that you appreciated the personalized approach, and we’re thrilled you enjoyed both the Acropolis and the Museum with him. We hope to welcome you again on another experience in Greece

A great way to see the Acropolis

If you are considering a tour company for a visit to Greece, we highly recommend Athens Insider. They arranged five activities for us, and we enjoyed every one of them. They took excellent care of us, both in preparing for the trip and during the different excursions. Our guide was Nota. She is an archeologist by training, and

Amazing tour of Acropolis and Museum

We booked private 4 hour tour to get an immersive look at history and temples atop Acropolis. Our guide Zakia met us at 9 am and we spent 2 hours exploring the architecture and the temples of the Acropolis before moving onto the superb museum where the ancient artifacts are laid out really well and just fascinating. Zakia was friendly individual really passionate and knowledgeable about different periods of ancient Greek history, architecture, art, culture, gods and myths. We spent just over 4 hours all together but came away with a really tremendous view of ancient Athens and its place and role in western thought and history. Expensive but worth it particularly as our guide Zakia made it so interesting.

Must have Nota to guide you!

Nota is an archeologist who grew up in Athens and is very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture. She was considerate of of needs and we really enjoyed our 6 hours with her. We learned so much more than we ever would have in days on our own. She met us at our hotel and finished in the Plaka with an easy stroll home. You should have sturdy walking shoes for all tours in Athens. Marble is very slippery! And take a snack with you as we didn't have lunch to 2:30 after a 9:00 am start.
