Aunque el mercado ha evolucionado más hacia una atracción turística hoy en día, todavía merece la pena visitarlo por su ambiente único y la experiencia que ofrece. Además, visitaremos Talad Rom Hoop, también conocido como 'Mercado de paraguas de tren', para una experiencia de mercado única. El mercado literalmente se encuentra en la vía del tren y todos los días los clientes y comerciantes dejan paso al tren Bangkok-Maeklong. Visitaremos el mercado flotante más famoso de Tailandia: Damnoen Saduak. A su llegada, abordará un bote tradicional de cola larga para dar un paseo por los canales, ofreciendo una visión de la vida a lo largo de las vías fluviales. El canal Damnoen Saduak fue encargado en 1866 por el rey Rama IV para conectar los ríos Mae Klong y Tha Chin y mejorar el transporte de agua entre las provincias de Ratchaburi y Samut Sakhon. Las fotografías de este colorido y bullicioso mercado se encuentran entre las más ampliamente presentadas en los folletos de viaje sobre Tailandia. Si bien el mercado actual atiende en gran medida a los turistas, todavía ofrece una experiencia inolvidable con su ambiente animado, barcos y escenas de canales. El mercado ferroviario de Mae Klong existe desde 1905. La pesca era (y sigue siendo) uno de los principales medios de vida de las personas que vivían aquí, y el mercado era otra forma de vender sus bienes. Los funcionarios decidieron construir un ferrocarril para entregar mejor estas mercancías a otras provincias. El mercado se mantuvo, sin embargo, a pesar de las nuevas pistas que lo atravesaban. Caminaremos por el mercado y veremos el tren llegar o salir antes de regresar a Bangkok. Wat Bang Kung es famoso por su pequeña capilla que está completamente encerrada entre las raíces de un árbol de higuera llamado Bot Prok Po. Es casi como si el árbol mismo fuera los pilares del templo y que sin las raíces la capilla se caería. También puedes entrar para rendir homenaje a la imagen de Buda. Los terrenos del templo alguna vez sirvieron como fuerte naval, lugar de una feroz batalla en el siglo XVIII entre Siam y los invasores de Birmania. This was a visit to the floating market and railway market. We were very lucky that there were only the two of us on trip, so we had the exclusive services of Paul, our guide and Maue our lady driver. Apologies if I got the spelling wrong. I visited the floating market 40 years ago when it was an actual working market and was surprised to see that now it's purely a tourist attraction and the only things on sale were souvenirs. Having said that, I suppose it's great that they managed to preserve it in some form and it's very pleasant to take a boat trip through the market stores which last time wasn't really possible. Paul was a brilliant guide. He was very cheerful, very funny, full of energy and we exchanged some interesting stories with him. The driving was also perfect. We did get to see a couple of other things which was very nice, a tree which had grown into a 400-year-old monastery building covering it with roots and branches. Also a seafood fish market. The train thing was okay but much like others I have seen in Hanoi. Expensive restaurants on the side of the tracks while you wait for a train to come past. Only downside is it's a bit of a long trek to and from, about an hour and a half each way but the car was very comfortable and air-conditioned
