The tour and our guide were excellent. We learned so much about the historic importance of Cobh. Very impressive!
We did Kieran’s historic walking tour of Cobh, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in Cobh. Kieran isn’t just a guide—he’s an incredible storyteller and historian who has a rare gift for bringing history to life. Rather than simply reciting dates and facts, he paints such a vivid picture that you feel like you’re witnessing the events unfold. His explanations of the Irish struggle for independence were fascinating, and he connected Ireland’s history to World War I and the broader events happening around the world at the time. It felt more like sitting through a captivating documentary than taking a walking tour. Knowing that he’s also an author who has written a book on the subject made his passion and depth of knowledge even more impressive. What we especially enjoyed was how interactive the tour was. Kieran constantly challenged us to think, asked thought-provoking questions, and kept everyone engaged from beginning to end. The two hours flew by. If you’re visiting Cobh and want to truly understand its history—not just see the sights—this tour is an absolute must. We left with a much deeper appreciation for Ireland’s past and would recommend Kieran without hesitation. Five stars all the way!
It was amazing how much knowledge he knew about all the History/wars of Ireland and the world. He explained it like watching a movie as he really made you imaging it to see it. He was really good. A must Tour to take !!!
There is so much history in Cobh and as an American we enjoyed our time with Kieran as he shared the importance of Cobh in history of Ireland. The weather was gorgeous and walking about this charming village was ideal!
We were fortunate enough to have our tour guide to ourselves! We really enjoyed the experience, and learned a lot of new information about the fascinating history of the area. I would recommend this tour to others who are interesting in Irish history and the struggle for Independence.
If you are interested in learning more about Ireland’s history, this tour is a must. We walked to scenic overviews and interesting spots.
The guide Kieran provided an interesting tour. We arrived by cruise boat & meeting location was easy to find. However you need to be aware that he/tour operator isn't organized. Long story short we were scheduled for a 9am tour & Kieran finally arrived at 11:30 ish (was late even for his 11am tour). He said his internet went down the previous night & he didn't know there was a tour scheduled (even though we had reserved a few months ago & made payment a couple days earlier through Viator). This time delay impacted our entire day & cut time short in Cobh/Cork. While the tour was interesting, we were very disappointed.
Great tour, Keiran is a well of knowledge, you can ask him any question and he'll have an answer for you. Was really great at answering my mothers questions to help us trace our genealogy (life of her mother and grandparents who were from cobh). Would also highly recommend buying one of his books such as Republican Cobh & the East Cork Volunteers since 1913 and West Cork Through Time , both of which i have a copy of. Well worth the money and elderly friendly (mother in 60s).
What a fantastic tour! Kieran was a masterful storyteller, providing global context while weaving in the personal angle as well. Informative without being stuffy, well worth the time. Only caution is that the town is hilly so be prepared to climb some steps (but Kieran does a great job of pacing and providing places to rest).
Kieran was an incredible guide. We would highly recommend this tour for both history buffs and those with little to no knowledge of Irish history. He was so knowledgable about Irish history overall as well as the local history of Cobh. The tour was filled with stories about local rebels and ordinary Irish families. Kieran is a great storyteller and very engaging. As someone who loves history and has previously found tours to be surface level this was truly phenomenal and so immersive. Plus my partner who knew very little about Irish history was able to follow and enjoyed the tour just as much. Could not recommend more! It was also just the two of us which made it feel like a private tour and we could ask as many questions as we liked. Check this out if you want to get a deeper dive into the local history.
