Loved our tour through the stunning grounds and palace buildings of Schönbrunn. Was interesting to learn about the history of the palace and its matriarch, Maria Theresa. We literally spent all day exploring the vast gardens and enjoying all that Schönbrunn has to offer. A must-see when visiting Vienna.
We had a great tour guide Ali; she’s from Italy but has lived in Vienna for decades - such a bubbly and fun (and very knowledgeable) tour guide. No cars allowed inside the gates so the taxis/uber will drop you off just outside. Cross the road, through the black gates into the courtyard and meet up at the right side fountain - shades not far away! The tour lasts over 2 hours and you get fast access and a guided inside - there’s coat storage (no bags allowed inside) and some steps during the tour but there is an elevator if you need it. After Ali’s great tour inside she gives you a tour of the lovely gardens. Then you are free to do your own thing - we walked to the beautiful fountain then UPHILL to the cafe on the hilltop that’s part of the estate. There are water bottle fill stations to right of fountain towards palace behind the ice cream trolley! There were 15 on our tour from all over. Tip? After you cold beer and light lunch in the cafe walk to the side exit and down a short (level) 5 min pathway and get uber to pick you up from there!
Rafael our guide was both informative and had a great sense of humor which made the tour very enjoyable.
Our guide, Eric, was fabulous. A very informative tour that was the perfect length to keep all of our attention. Definitely worth a visit!
What happened is that we suffered a disappointment; they give you several options for the tour and different prices, and we chose an option that said apartments and cost $28 per person. They give you headphones and show you some projections, but you don't see much; you hardly see anything. The furnished rooms or lounges are reserved for those who pay €75, so for a family, it is expensive, and we left feeling sad.
It was great. There was a lot of walking the palace is massive and the garden surrounding even bigger bring water and wear walking shoes especially if it is hot like it was for us
Andy was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. It was a very warm day, so he tried to find shady areas to tell us of the upcoming sights.
Great tour, we were lucky, and the group was very small since it was the off-season ;). Siri was great, and it was a lot of fun. Thank you very much for the wonderful day, Siri.
Billie was a good and knowlageable guide. Shes very bubbly and gave a lot of knowledge when bringing us around the palace and garden. Amazing experience that everyone should try once!
Raffa was super insightful and humorous with anecdotes pertaining to the history of the artwork and the location in general. You are able to hear everything he is saying as they provide a headset enabling everyone to hear him clearly. There is a lot of walking and climbing of stairs (I don’t recall seeing an elevator/lift) so prepare yourself and seniors in your group. Once in the gardens you’ll find plenty of benches to sit in (shaded arch ways are prime spots). Wear sun protection because that heat on your head or face is relentless. I wish I could’ve had more interaction with Raffa he seems to be such a great conversationalist. Now if you don’t like people who enjoy sharing their knowledge by vocal expression (keep it moving no need to be disrespectful to our guide). Thank you again.
