The Turning Heads mushing tour exceeded our expectations. Hailey, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, and the dogs are clearly happy and love what they're doing. Would highly recommend!
We had a doggone blast and this experience is the perfect combo!! We learned all kinds of facts about the Iditarod race from the perspective of a 2nd place winning team, got to visit and pet many eager & furry race participants, snuggled with a 19-day old husky, and went out with a bang on an Iditarod sled simulation, just howling and whipping around corners at about 10 mph! If you’re worried about dogs being strapped into harnesses, I can assure you that they PAWSITIVELY cannot wait to get hooked up and do their thing! It was all the owners could do to get them to wait their turn and they couldn’t strap them in fast enough! The only thing that could have made this even better is if we had received a refund for one member of our party who had something unexpected come up last minute. Totally understand if we had kept someone else from booking and had held up a spot, but we had just booked 15 min prior to the tour. Kudos to the team on their overall success to date and many thanks for offering a unique and memorable experience!
One of our highlights on our family of ten vacation to Alaska was experiencing a dog sledding tour with Turning Heads Kennels. As an educator that follows the Iditarod race every year and incorporate activities into the stories from the past, seeing this up close and personal and meeting Travis was amazing. We loved seeing the dogs and how excited they were to be hitched up to take our family of ten on an adventure aboard a cart along their training course for the summer. It is truly amazing how they can pull the cart and occupants at a decent rate of speed. Travis Beals guided the dogs with his calls and it was clear they loved their job. After we got experience a little taste of what it must be like to be on a sled behind these powerful dogs, we got to cuddle the puppies. One little puppy was two weeks old. Then we took our turn to hear all about what it is like to be a musher racing with these dogs especially on the famous Iditarod, which Travis took second place in 2026 and we will be cheering him on for the championship in 2027! This truly is an adventure and experience you don’t want to miss when visiting Alaska and the Seward area. Get a taste of the Alaskan way of life for many!
Highly recommend. Great interaction with the dogs. Definitely get your dog fix. Hunter was fantastic. Unbelievable the amount of time and effort that goes into doing the Iditarod.
If you are in Seward, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS!!! It was so much fun!! We learned about the dogs and the Iditarod. The ride was amazing and after we played with puppies. I was in heaven the whole time! The cruise was even delayed with letting us off the boat but I called and they were really nice and great about it. They made everything still happen even when we were running late.
We were a family group of 11 including our kids and grandkids. We really enjoyed this place. In fact, that all the grandkids talked about the rest of the day! They were well organized. Overall, 28 people were there during our time slot, but they did a great job making sure we and the rest of the guest had a great time. They kept our group together and broke the others into 2 additional groups. They then had 3 areas each of us rotated and when to during our 1-hour time slot. The chart ride, the dogs, and the puppies. It was amazing to watch them hitch up over14 dogs to pull the cart. All the dogs were ready to go and quickly we went down a beautiful wood path racing at a fast pace. Boy did those dog pull!! We were also lucky to have this year’s second place Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race drive the dogs while we held pm for the fun on the cart, cheering and laughing all the way. He stopped ½ way, borrowed one of the cell phones from us to make sure we got a great photo of us on the chart with all of the dogs out front. All the staff was great and knew their stuff. They made all of us, the adults, kids, and grandkids feel special and answers any and all questions we had. I highly recommend this tour!
Fantastic fun and educational. Hunter gave us s great tour and a great ride with the dogs. Family friendly too bring the kids!
This was a great experience! We worried it wouldn’t be as exciting since we were pulled in a cart on wheels instead of an actual sled, but it was amazing! We were pulled by 8 dogs that had won second place in the Iditarod this year, which was pretty cool.
Best shore excursion in Seward. Boo ki ng was easy. Got picked up from the cruise terminal on time. The dogs were friendly and so sweet. The ride was a great experience. We learned about raising and training these beautiful dogs. Chris was kind enough to take us back into town and told us a little about the town.
Very informative with interesting facts about Idatarod race. Friendly host and nice interaction with dogs and puppies alongside a fun sled ride around the property.
