Este es un hermoso y vibrante templo hindú (o Kovil) dedicado al Señor Ganesha, la deidad con cabeza de elefante venerada como el Quitador de Obstáculos y el Dios de la Sabiduría. Arquitectura : Presenta un gopuram (torre de entrada) de estilo dravídico llamativamente colorido adornado con intrincadas esculturas y estatuas de varios dioses y diosas hindúes. Significado : Sirve como lugar de culto vital para la comunidad hindú local, reflejando el rico patrimonio multirreligioso de Negombo. La Experiencia : Los visitantes pueden entrar para experimentar la atmósfera serena, espiritual, admirar las obras de arte detalladas, y presenciar los rituales diarios que involucran flores, incienso, y lámparas.
Iglesia de Santa María (Maha Veediya Palliya) Negombo es famosa como la "Pequeña Roma", y esta majestuosa iglesia es la pieza central de esa reputación. Es una de las catedrales más grandes de Sri Lanka y una hermosa mezcla de estilo neoclásico europeo con el arte de Sri Lanka. Arquitectura : Construida entre 1874 y 1922, la iglesia cuenta con una fachada grandiosa, imponente y columnas masivas. Lo más destacado del Interior : La característica más famosa es el techo impresionante, que está cubierto de frescos vibrantes y pinturas que representan la vida de Cristo y varios santos. Negombo Fish Market & Dry Fish Fields El Mercado de Pescado de Negombo, conocido localmente como Lellama, es una porción caótica, colorida y auténtica de la vida local. Es uno de los mercados de pescado más grandes y dinámicos de la isla. Mercado : Mejor visitarlo temprano en la mañana (alrededor de las 6:00 AM) para ver a los pescadores descargar sus capturas frescas de atún, cangrejo, gambas y varios peces de arrecife. Es un espectáculo vibrante, ruidoso y bullicioso que ofrece un vistazo crudo a la economía pesquera de Sri Lanka. Los Campos de Peces Secos : Justo más allá del mercado húmedo se encuentra la zona bañada por el sol donde vastas extensiones de las capturas del día —especialmente peces pequeños y trozos grandes y cortados— se disponen para secarse al aire libre, un método tradicional de conservación. Este campo crea un aroma potente y único y es una vista visualmente impactante contra el cielo azul y la arena. Esta zona muestra el corazón de la identidad de Negombo como una ciudad pesquera costera clásica.
Negombo Fuerte Holandés (Fuerte Viejo) El Fuerte Holandés Negombo es un sitio histórico que marca el papel de la ciudad en la historia colonial de Sri Lanka, habiendo sido un puesto comercial clave para la canela y las especias. Historia : Establecida originalmente por los Portugueses, fue posteriormente capturada y reconstruida por los Holandeses en el siglo XVII. Estado actual : A diferencia del extenso fuerte de Galle, gran parte de la estructura original de Negombo fue desmantelada por los británicos a finales del siglo XIX para construir la prisión cercana. Hoy en día, los visitantes pueden ver la puerta principal conservada y algunos tramos de la muralla. Significado : Si bien sólo quedan restos, el sitio ofrece una visión de la arquitectura de la época colonial y la importancia estratégica de la ubicación costera de Negombo.
Canal Holandés en Negombo, oficialmente conocido como el Canal Hamilton, es una fascinante vía navegable histórica que sirve como una conexión viva con el pasado colonial de Sri Lanka y la comunidad pesquera local. El canal recorre alrededor de 14,5 kilómetros (9 millas), conectando Puttalam con Colombo, y pasa a la derecha a través de Negombo, donde enlaza con la laguna Negombo.
El Templo Angurukaramulla, oficialmente conocido como Bodhirajaramaya, es uno de los sitios budistas más famosos e históricamente significativos de Negombo. Es célebre por su arquitectura increíblemente colorida y ornamentada, particularmente sus elaborados murales y esculturas.

Espere en frente de la entrada principal o puerta del hotel. El tuk-tuk tendrá el logotipo "Jayasri Tuk Tuk Tours Negombo Sri Lanka" mostrado en ambos lados. Esté afuera y claramente visible en el momento de la recogida; no espere en el vestíbulo, ya que el conductor generalmente no puede salir del vehículo para buscarlo.

Had a great time and was taken to enough places. Great selection of sites from temples to fish market. The length of time was ample and Atula had a sarong for us to use. We should have realised and wore knee length skirts.

Absolutely brilliant tour guide, very knowledgeable and polite. Provided ice cold water for free. Took us to some stunning churches and temples, and to the famous fish market ( be prepared for strong smells, luckily I'm from Grimsby so the smell of fish didn't bother me). The tour guide didn't pressure us or take us to anywhere we didn't want to go and even offered to take us to an ATM and a supermarket to buy rice (as my phone succumbed to the 95% humidity so needed drying out). Great value for money definitely recommended and will use again.
