La Riviera del Brenta, conocida vía fluvial entre Padua y Venecia, es una zona panorámica interesante desde un punto de vista histórico, natural, artístico y cultural. Es una extensión natural del Gran Canal y está flanqueada por pintorescos pueblos venecianos y rodeada por un paisaje agrícola. La Riviera del Brenta ha fascinado en todo momento a importantes personalidades: Casanova, Galileo Galilei, Byron, Montesquieu y D'Annunzio la han visitado, Canaletto, Cimaroli y Tiepolo la han pintado y ha sido elogiada en las obras maestras de Goldoni y Goethe. . Las familias reales francesas y rusas, los Habsburgo, los Saboya e incluso Napoleón se alojaron aquí y la nobleza veneciana lo eligió como escenario de sus villas venecianas. Aquí los venecianos construyeron magníficas residencias, rodeadas de jardines monumentales, pintados al fresco y diseñados por los artistas más importantes de la época como Palladio, Tiziano y Tintoretto.

Villa Pisani en Stra es una villa veneciana de estilo barroco tardío ubicada a lo largo del Canale del Brenta (Riviera del Brenta) cerca de la ciudad de Stra, a pocos kilómetros de Venecia. Villa Pisani es la villa más imponente, más grande y más visitada de la Riviera. Fue construida sobre un edificio preexistente para celebrar la gloria de la familia Pisani, especialmente cuando Alvise Pisani fue elegido dux en 1735. Después del final de la Serenísima, fue propiedad de Napoleón, en 1814 los austriacos se hicieron cargo. Cuando Venecia se unió al Reino de Italia en 1866, Vittorio Emanuele II permaneció allí por un corto tiempo y dos años después pasó a ser propiedad del estado. Desde finales del siglo XIX ha sido un Museo Nacional. Innumerables invitados y visitantes importantes de toda Europa: el zar Alejandro I de Rusia, Gustav de Suecia, Maria Luigia de Parma y muchos otros. En 1934 Hitler y Mussolini se reunieron allí.

This was the perfect way to get a feel for what life was like in the villas on the river Brenta. It is a bit of a drive, but seeing all the villas as you pass makes it totally worth it!! We saw the Villa Widmark and the Villa Pisani!! Both great examples though much different in size!! Nico was a most excellent guide, and we had plenty of time to fully explore both villas!!!

We traveled by car in a small group and got to experience the Italian villas between Siena and Venice. Chiara explained to us the history of the families and why there was such a big difference between the different villas. We loved seeing the beautiful gardens as well as the splendidly decorated interiors. She let us visit at our own pace, and a gentleman in our group bought everyone coffee to enjoy on the terrace. It is a side of Italy we wouldn’t have gotten to see—much recommended!

This tour let us experience how the other half lived in Venice's hayday! we were looking for an out of town trip that let us experience the countryside without driving all day. our guide Camilla met us near our apartment in Padova and we enjoyed the experience with a small group (only two others). We stopped first at a beautiful villa about 20 minutes from Padova to see how Venetian nobles lived. The exhibits were well organized and the villa even had a nice coffee shop (Camilla was kind to treat as she was a few minutes late in meeting us as the initial group was late meeting her). The second villa was more like Versaille palace, magnificent enough that mebers of Napoleon's family lived there. Yet at the smae time, hardly anyone was there! really great to see such a wonderful site without being surrouded by other tourists) The countryside was beautiful and the tour was very enjoyable. With the agreement of the other two, Camilla was happy to add an unscheduled stop in a small village where we had a delicious sushi lunch. Camilla is a good diver and is very knowledgeable about the tour sites.

We spent a wonderful day. The tour starts with a drive from Padua along the green banks of the Brenta river. The two stops include Villa Pisani and Villa Widmann, with enough time to visit the gardens. The guide is a great storyteller and has a captivating way to present paintings. The little extra was to do this as a private tour - we were only two and had the chance to visit at our own pace.
