We made an independeat trip from Ortigia to Noto. We travelled by bus which was easy , however the schedule is a little thin. Noto is also served by the train, again not so frequently and the train station is unmanned so you will have to refer to schedules and prices online and book online. Noto is a nice town with all its older baroque building packed within a small place. There are also many restaurants and bars serving excellent food. Its worth a day trip.
As other people have mentioned this is a taxi service only. Mario, the driver, thought part of the tour was his first stop, with 7 people, should be the gas station. We all had to wait while he filled up. Then on to Syracuse and the Greek ruins. We got a finger point to the ticket office and another finger point where we enter and a hand drawn note what time to meet after the viewing. It cost 14 euros to see the ruins and they ARE ruins. Complete waste of time. Then on to ortigia, which is quite wonderful. One issue is that the fort closes at 1:30 and I got there at 1:20. Closing time. I tried to get there as quickly as possible, but was not allowed entry and no one tells you the fort closes at that time. It would be best to forget about the Greek ruins altogether and go to ortigia for an extra hour. Then add then other half hour to noto. Noto was also great but one hour is not enough. Better to forget the Greek ruins, you can see better things for free in ortigia and Noto. It would be helpful if the driver could speak at least a bit of English, not just point. It's not that big a deal but the tour of the gas station and Greek ruins are a waste of time. The other passengers were all of the same thought as myself.
No more than a bus service not a tour as the driver just drops you at ruins of Syracuse Disappointing tour as there was no information in advance and we were not made verbally aware there was additional costs for entrance to the unesco site , although we should have read the paperwork where it stated additional costs would be incurred. Archimedes would be be embarrassed- The site is very overgrown with weeds and unkept. When I tried to discuss this poor presentation of such a historic monument the member of staff laughed and agreed it was run down There were long queues for a women’s toilet but if you walked past there were several more which were not being used? The best thing was the lady selling fresh juice before you enter the park
The minibus has seen better days… it was a roughy ride for 8 bumpy hours Driver did not speak English but was very pleasant m The sites were amazing
Wasted alot of time picking up someone in Syracuse. Then coming back to Syracuse at the end of the tour. Should have started there first so we had more time at the other spots.
It's just a taxi! Awful driver Franco who does not mind the tourists, just puts loud his music as he had a transportation of potatoes! Those people must not work in tourism! Please have in mind, this is not a tour, no explanation provided, no nothing.... Only a tough man minding his business.....
