I cannot rate this company highly enough. Armann was a fountain of knowledge, humour and enthusiasm. He was sensitive to what we needed, while gently guiding our decisions based on his experience and expertise. We had the most wonderful experience and if I could give him 6 stars, I would! Thank you so very much- we will never forget this day ( and not just because it was -27 degrees!)
I booked this tour paid in full and the tour company cancelled my tour out of the blue! The only explanation given was Viator did not have permission to book with them, but they are still listed here, but I now notice at a much higher price than I paid. Hmmmmm. I'm not sure I would trust this tour "provider".
Thank you for message, Viator unfortunately had a technical problem with their booking system that allowed a booking to be made when the date was unavailable. As soon as we saw the booking we immediately contacted to explain the tour was not available and Viator issued a full refund. This is important to us as we wanted to make sure you knew as soon as possible so you had time to make other arrangements. We are unsure how there was another tour at a different price as we did not have this tour available even at a higher price. It may have been another operator. We are sorry that we did not have availability and we hope you found a great alternative and enjoyed your time in Iceland.
Our group of four split our 10-day visit to Iceland with a flight to Akureyri and two full days in the north. We booked a day tour and a Northern Lights night tour out of Akureyri with Imagine Iceland. Unfortunately, the weather was uncooperative for the Northern Lights and Imagine recommended cancellation…which we understood and which was promptly refunded. Our day tour, however, was simply spectacular. Jon, our guide, was a true treasure – a gifted storyteller with a deep knowledge of his country’s history. In Dimmuborga, he sat on a bench--in the middle of a dramatic lava field—and kept us spellbound with stories of trolls, hidden people, and other tales from Iceland’s past. Despite the snowy conditions (thank goodness for Jon’s bag of traction devices for our boots), we pressed on to visit Dettifoss and the Asbyrgi Canyon, with Jon mindful of our needs and keeping a careful eye on our every step. Each stop along the way was uniquely amazing and impossible to exaggerate its beauty. The geologic formations of the north are fantastic and not to be missed--worth every penny and more. Highest marks for the entire experience!
I'm not sure if I can find enough superlatives to laud this great tour. Imagine Iceland was easy to work with and so very responsive. We were delighted to work with them and the tour itself made our time in Akureyri truly special! Our guide was Jón and what a treasure he was. His knowledge of his country's history, of the sagas, of the "hidden people" and more added to the richness of the day. It was a snowy and windy day but fantastic nonetheless. In fact, the weather in many ways made it an amazing experience. Jón was so helpful. He provided hiking crampons, helping us to get them on and off, and ensuring that we stayed safe. He knew the special spots to stop and was a delightful story teller. It was hard to choose a favorite. The spots we visited were varied and dramatic. Detifosss and Gadafoss were both incredible. So was Ásbyrgi Canyon, and the shores of Lake Myvatn. And the lava formations at Dimmuborgir -- the Dark Fortress -- were super cool as well. On every level, it was a fantastic day, well planned and executed, and far exceeded what was promised!
Armann, being a photographer, showed us the most beautiful spots in the area around Akureyri. With just the two of us we booked a private 4-hour tour with Imagine Iceland Travel at a very reasonable price. We visited hidden valleys, rivers, Ljosavatn, the Godafoss waterfall. We saw ice in water, morning light on mountains; we were stunned by the views on fjord Eyjafjordur. And the joy of it was, that everything was self-paced. It was a true pleasure. Armanns company and expertise certainly contributed a great deal to the experience. I can only say: give yourself a treat and do it!
Our tour of the Lake Myvatn area included Krafla, Hverir, Hverfjall, Dimmuborgir, GoT landmarks, and numerous waterfalls. Our guide was amazing. He is very knowledge on the local geology & customs, Icelandic history, and the fun North South rivalry. I would 100% recommend Imagine Iceland Travel to anyone heading up north and wanting a day's tour of the area. I will use them again for our next trip.
