Itinerario
I was in this market with my girlfriend on a holiday in Tanzania. We toured the banquets with a local guide who accompanied us throughout the journey. Here you can find many products: from clothing to food passing through household items. Unravelling among the various sellers is very interesting and particular. Cooked fish, fruit, meat and legumes are on sale. We tasted fresh bananas that we found very good, much more consistent than those eaten elsewhere and very tasty. An authentic and very curious experience.
I had a great day with Reuben at the local market, waterfalls, and at "The Small Things" office in Usa River region. It was a great way of combining support for local communities and tourism. The market is absolutely a must, and in my opinion best to go with a local, not because it is not safe, but because you can be offered everything at every corner so it could be a bit overwhelming without a local speaking swahili. This was one of the best experiences during my holiday and Reuben was great because he really knew where to find what i wanted, and also at a "local" price. The waterfall tour was also great, we walked through the "banana village" (loads of banana trees) to reach the falls and it was really fantastic and not too hard for those that don't like to walk too much. Everything was great, Reuben was always on time, always responding quickly to my requests on whatsapp, the guides he hired very professional, food served great. overall a fantastic experience (again, don't miss the market, i got a tailor made shirt with african textiles, was amazing to see the tailor in action) After the market we visited The Small Things office and its school/dormitories. It is a great organization with a very unique goal of returning kids to their families, so they see residential care as a temporary solution which i found very interesting. There is a lot more that they do so I encourage you to check on their website or - better - spend a day with Reuben who will explain very well and also engage you in their mission. Thanks a lot to The Small Things and Reuben for the great day and for helping their communities with the revenues from the tours!
