En primer lugar, un recorrido y degustación en la destilería Glen Moray en Elgin nos transporta a lo tradicional. Un cambio de propietario en 2008 hizo que la destilería “volviera a lo básico” y produjera un whisky de malta Speyside sencillo y de calidad. El resultado es la gama “Elgin Heritage”, compuesta por un single malt de 12, 15 y 18 años que no decepciona.
Luego continúa hacia nuestra próxima destilería. Se dice que “Roma fue construida sobre siete colinas y Dufftown se levanta sobre siete alambiques”. Uno de esos alambiques es la mundialmente famosa destilería Glenfiddich, la siguiente en nuestro itinerario para una degustación de whisky. Glenfiddich es una de las pocas destilerías que sigue siendo de propiedad familiar y produce un whisky de malta distintivo desarrollado por generaciones de "fabricantes de whisky inconformistas". Hoy en día, Glenfiddich es el whisky de malta única más premiado, un testimonio de los métodos intransigentes de la destilería.

Dejamos atrás las escarpadas tierras altas y comenzamos nuestro viaje a través del exuberante valle de Spey, pasando por campos de cebada dorada en nuestro rastro de whisky, uno de los tres ingredientes clave utilizados en la magia de la producción de whisky de malta. Disfrute de una degustación en la destilería Cardhu, que fue establecida en 1824 por los antiguos contrabandistas de whisky, John y Helen Cumming. En los días de la destilación ilícita de la pareja, Helen enarbolaba una bandera roja para advertir a los vecinos que los agentes de impuestos especiales se alojaban con ellos en su granja. Cardhu Distillery fue una de las primeras en asociarse con John Walker & Sons. Ha permanecido en esta familia durante 200 años, produciendo cuidadosamente el “carácter elegante, suave y sensual del whisky de pura malta Cardhu”.
Desde 1865, Glenfarclas ha sido propiedad y está administrado por una sola familia, The Grants of Glenfarclas.

Bob was an experienced guide with lots of information to share. He is everything you can ask for in a guide. The tour itself was a highlight on our trip, we got to experience how whiskey is produced and also visit several distilleries and taste many different whiskeys.

The picture is where I waited for 45 minutes before I was told the trip I had booked for in February, paid for on Sunday and reminded on 2 days before and the day before was CANCELLED! 6 months and my money wasted ! It was to be the HIGHLIGHT of my Highlands tour 🙄. I travelled 3500 miles for this excursion 🤨. Thanks VIOLATOR and Not Happy Tours for ruining my holiday! Yeah, this is a BOGUS BS non-excursion! BEWARE! 😒
This is an extreme reaction to a situation totally out with our control, and a genuine booking error on our part. . The distilleries this year have been so unpredictable with letting tour companies book tours and tastings. They are still not operating to the capacity they did pre covid . We felt we could not give you the tour to the high level of customer service we maintain. We came in person to apologise and explain the situation. You got an immediate on the spot refund of everything you paid. I helped you to book the tour of Glenmorangie you wanted so bad, along with travel there, and left you with what seemed to me and you at the time a good resolution. We even shook hands on it and had a joke.
We took the Speyside whisky tour with Robbie and had a fantastic time! Plenty of local knowledge and fascinating off-track detours made the tour a wonderful experience.

The contrast between the distilleries was amazing and all offered something unique. Our driver/guide Bill was a font of knowledge and made the trip an exceptional experience. He really did go the extra mile!

Our guide & driver Rob was the best part of our day. He recited Robbie Burns, sang songs about the Gordon clan, and entertained us with tales of the Orange versus the Jacobites. He knows every rock band worth its salt, can play the entire guitar solo from Metallica’s Whisky In The Jar, and told us all about salmon fishing on the Beauly. Plus he looked after each of us and made sure we each had a lovely day. We went on this tour to drink whisky but had no idea that the whisky would be completely overshadowed by a true gentleman and a scholar. We will never forget the sound of “To A Mouse” as recited by Rob, the highlight of our trip. One of Scotland’s finest - we hope we meet him again some day.
