Recogiéndote en la puerta del puerto, viajamos a lo largo de la orilla del Cromarty Firth y cruzamos el puente de Cromarty hacia Black Isle y nos dirigimos a Beauly Priory, el monasterio del siglo XIII construido para una orden de monjes de Valliscaulian de Dijon en Francia y destruido por Las fuerzas de Cromwell en el siglo XVI. Luego haremos una breve parada para ver algo de ganado de las Tierras Altas (ver foto) antes de continuar por Culnakirk Hill hasta Drumnadrochit y visitar el castillo de Urquhart, que se encuentra en un promontorio que se adentra en el lago Ness, las vistas del lago son fantásticas desde aquí. y fue cerca de aquí donde se dice que San Columba vio al Monstruo del Lago Ness. Luego nos dirigimos hacia Inverness y cuando llegamos a Inverness pasamos la Colina de las Hadas. Nos detenemos para ver la Catedral y The Old High Church y pasamos el Castillo de Inverness y la estatua de Flora Macdonald antes de viajar a Clava Cairns y almorzar en el Castillo de Cawdor antes de concluir nuestro recorrido en Culloden Battlefield.

Beauly Priory está actualmente cerrado debido a los fuertes vientos recientes que provocaron la caída de mampostería; aún no sabemos cuándo volverá a abrir. Seguiremos visitando Beauly, donde podrás verlo desde la puerta. Beauly Priory fue fundado en el siglo XIII como un monasterio para la orden de monjes valiscaulianos de Dijon en Francia; las fuerzas de Oliver Cromwell fueron responsables de la destrucción del Priorato en el siglo XVI. Durante siglos, este fue un lugar de entierro para los jefes del clan Fraser y Mackenzie y sus familias. Hay una conexión con Outlander porque fue aquí donde Claire conoció al Vidente.
El castillo de Urquhart se asienta sobre un promontorio que se adentra en el lago Ness y ha sido disputado muchas veces a lo largo de los años. Las vistas del lago Ness desde el castillo son fantásticas. y durante la visita puede ir y explorar las ruinas de este castillo de 1000 años de antigüedad y puede bajar al lado del agua del lago Ness. Mantén los ojos bien abiertos en caso de que aparezca Nessie.
La batalla de Culloden en 1746 fue la última batalla que se libró en suelo británico. Visite el Museo y paseemos por las áreas principales del campo de batalla donde tuvieron lugar los combates más intensos, verá el túmulo conmemorativo, el pozo de los muertos y las lápidas de los clanes, así como la cabaña de Leanach. Esta visita es la primera de la lista para los fans de Outlander.
Visitaremos Clava Cairns y podrá ingresar a 2 de los 3 Cairns, este cementerio de la Edad de Bronce de 4000 años de antigüedad es donde Diana Gabaldon se inspiró para su serie de forasteros y verá la piedra hendida y los círculos de piedra alrededor de Cairns.
Una de las calles más antiguas de Inverness es Church street y el primer lugar que vemos es la librería Leakeys, este fue un Hospital del Gobierno después de la batalla de Culloden.
Detrás de la librería Leakeys se encuentra la Old High Church / St Stephens donde los prisioneros jacobitas fueron llevados después de la Batalla de Culloden, todavía se pueden ver los agujeros de mosquete en el muro de la iglesia donde fueron ejecutados los prisioneros jacobitas. Mirando hacia el río desde el cementerio, veremos Balnain House, que también fue un hospital gubernamental después de Culloden y St Marys Church, que tiene conexiones con Outlander.
Más arriba en Church Street pasamos por Abertarff House. Esta es la casa más antigua de Inverness y una vez fue la casa de los Fraser Chiefs.
El castillo de Cawdor reabre sus puertas el 27 de abril de 2024 El castillo de Cawdor, con sus conexiones con Macbeth, es uno de los pocos castillos de la zona de las Tierras Altas que no se ha visto afectado por los levantamientos jacobitas. Hogar de los Thanes de Cawdor durante siglos, puedes recorrer el castillo y visitar los magníficos jardines y conocer a la condesa viuda de Cawdor que aún vive en el castillo.

We had a wonderful tour with Billy. He was so knowledgeable and fun, we even had some silly requests like hitting golf ball and petting a coo (cow). He was able to do everything.

I had a lovely day with Lawrence! Everything was smooth and taken care of all day. He worked with me ahead of time & let me customize the tour a little bit. It was my birthday and I wanted to see some hairy coos and he came through! Seeing Loch Ness & the castle was wonderful, we did that first so we beat the crowds a bit. We saw Beauly Priory, Culloden Battlefield & Clava Cairns. We stopped for lunch at a cute little cafe & it was great. He was nice to talk to and I had a great time. Would definitely recommend & will use again when I return! Wishing I had booked a Whiskey tour too!

Super good guide! We loved the trip to Loch Ness with the castle. The guide knew some quieter areas around Loch Ness and knew a lot about the history of the clans and Scotland as well as the local area. We could plan our trip individually with the guide, who was good at making it fit with time. Can definitely be recommended.

Our tour guide, Bill, was so knowledgeable and interesting. He shared a lot of great information and history. Bill was so kind and went out of his way to find opportunities for pictures with the hairy coos. When it started to rain, he made sure we had rain jackets. Absolutely outstanding tour and guide!

Shamus was a great tour guide and customized our tour to enable us to see as much as possible in the short time we had available for our shore excursion.
We had an incredible day touring with Kevin, whose expertise, professionalism, and humor made the experience truly unforgettable. From the very start, he made us feel welcome and somehow managed to tailor the itinerary perfectly to our interests; all without being the slightest bit pushy or rushed. His ability to read the group and pace the day just right was impressive. The tour included a fantastic variety of stops: Highland cows at Robinsons Farm, whiskey tastings at Glen Ord and Urquhart Castle, tartan weaving at James Pringle Weavers, gift shopping at Holm Mills, a scenic drive through Inverness, the atmospheric Clava Cairns (complete with Harry Potter and Outlander lore), and the moving Culloden Battlefield. At every stop, Kevin shared fascinating stories and historical insights that brought each location to life. Throughout the day, Kevin kept us comfortable and entertained; his clean, well-stocked vehicle (ice-cold water and chocolates were a lovely touch), responsible driving, and great conversation made the time fly by. His mix of knowledge, charm, and humor made for one of the best tours we’ve ever taken. We can’t recommend him highly enough!

Billy our guide was excellent. He had extensive historical knowledge and presented it in an entertaining manner. He was very considerate and extremely helpful. We unfortunately had an interruption in our planned itinerary due to a major road closure due to an accident. Billy found alternate routes and managed to get us to all sites detailed in advertisement. Definitely would recommend him to other travelers.
