Hemos creado un maravilloso recorrido para que conozcas la historia de Guatemala de otra manera. Pasarás de estar en un sitio arqueológico maya a 2 ciudades coloniales, y la actual capital de Guatemala, todo combinado en este recorrido. Guatemala, antes de la llegada de los conquistadores españoles, estaba dividida en reinos de diferentes etnias. En 1524 cuando los conquistadores pisaron Guatemala por primera vez, lo hicieron en la ciudad kaqchiquel de Iximché y fundaron allí la primera capital española. Unos años más tarde se trasladaron a Ciudad Vieja y establecieron su segunda capital. Aún así, debido a un desastre natural en 1541, se trasladaron por tercera vez a lo que hoy conocemos como Antigua Guatemala. Finalmente, luego de un terremoto en 1773, trasladaron su capital por cuarta vez, y lo hicieron hasta donde hoy se ubica. Este es un tour especializado para amantes de la historia y toda la familia. Comenzaremos este recorrido recogiéndolo en el lobby de su hotel en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Mientras seguimos por la carretera hasta llegar a la Ciudad Maya de Iximché, nuestro guía experto en historia te contará todos los datos interesantes sobre la Ciudad de Guatemala, que hoy es la cuarta capital de Guatemala fundada en 1777 y con mucha historia desde que fue en este sitio donde se firmó el acta de independencia en 1821 pero te contaremos cómo sucedió eso más adelante en el recorrido.
Una vez que lleguemos a Iximché, encontrarás las ruinas de la última ciudad maya. Iximché fue conquistada por los españoles cuando llegaron a tierras guatemaltecas y se convirtió en la primera ciudad española. Después de 3 años aquí, los españoles se mudaron a lo que ahora conocemos como Ciudad Vieja, cerca de Antigua Guatemala. Iximché fue una capital kaqchichel, una de las etnias mayas que aún existen en Guatemala en la actualidad. Los vestigios arquitectónicos que vemos hoy son los restos de palacios, plazas y canchas de pelota mayas que en su tiempo fueron decoradas con colorido y fueron galas del reino. Gran parte de las estructuras fueron destruidas durante la conquista y las construcciones de roca fueron desmanteladas para utilizar sus piedras en las construcciones españolas de Tecpán. Ciudad Vieja es la segunda capital de Guatemala después de la llegada de los conquistadores españoles. Esta ciudad fue fundada en 1527. Durante su visita, podrá apreciar la iglesia del pueblo, el parque central y la casa de Beatriz de la Cueva, quien fue la esposa del conquistador español Pedro de Alvarado. Ciudad Vieja fue destruida unos años después, en 1541 por una avalancha del Volcán de Agua que se encuentra muy cerca de la ciudad. Cuenta la historia que llovió durante 40 días y 40 noches, y cuando el cráter del volcán se llenó de agua, una parte se derrumbó, llevándose consigo la ciudad y sus habitantes. Las únicas personas que se salvaron fueron las que lograron refugiarse en la iglesia. Conozca estos datos curiosos y más en nuestra visita.
Después del almuerzo, tendremos un tour por Antigua Guatemala. Visitaremos el Arco de Santa Catalina, el Parque Central, algunos conventos e iglesias. Te encantará la historia de esta ciudad colonial que parece haberse congelado en el tiempo. La última parada de nuestro tour será llevarlo a salvo a su hotel en la Ciudad de Guatemala. I worked with Guat2Do to book their day tour to 4 capitals of Guatemala. This tour is well worth you time to learn about the history of the area. We started with Guatemala City, which I found to be an unexpected gem. The city is located in the highlands so the climate was perfect. I saw amazing parks along with the government buildings and cathedral. I didn't stay in Guatemala City for this trip overnight, but I definitely will next time. The second capital visited was Iximche which is a Mayan archeological site about 1.5 hours from Guatemala City. This is a very impressive site and reminded me of similar sites in the Yucatan. You can see Mayan priests conducting traditional ceremonies. The third capital is Ciudad Vieja which is on the slopes of a dormant volcano. The colonial city was destroyed by a landslide but you can see some ruins from that period and experience the views of the valley and the volcanoes. Finally, Antigua, the fourth capital. This city is full of tourists and has an infrastructure to go along with that. You can see colonial architecture and churches and pick from 100s of restaurants for amazing food and ambiance. I stayed here for 3 nights and would definitely recommend for anyone's first trip to Guatemala.
