Pueblo de Olimpia: en el Peloponeso occidental, en el hermoso valle del río Alfeo, se encuentra el santuario más famoso de la antigua Grecia. Templo de Zeus: Dedicado al dios Zeus, el templo dórico construido en el segundo cuarto del siglo V a. C. fue el modelo mismo del templo griego clásico plenamente desarrollado del orden dórico. Templo de Hera: Conocido como Heraion, este antiguo templo griego arcaico estaba dedicado a Hera, reina de los dioses griegos. El templo fue construido aproximadamente en el año 590 a.C. Sea testigo de dónde se enciende la llama olímpica moderna junto al templo dedicado a la diosa Hera. El Hipódromo y más tarde el Estadio: El Hipódromo era un área amplia, plana y abierta donde la línea de salida y llegada estaba definida por un poste. Aquí se celebraban carreras de caballos y carros. La Palaestra: Construida en el siglo III a.C. como parte del complejo de gimnasios, se utilizaba para practicar boxeo, lucha y salto. El Taller de Fidias: aquí es donde el gran escultor elaboró la gigantesca estatua criselefantina de Zeus, catalogada como una de las Siete Maravillas del mundo antiguo.
Philippeion: El único edificio circular dentro del Altis. Uno de los mejores ejemplos de la arquitectura griega antigua, fue dedicado a Zeus por Felipe II de Macedonia después de su victoria en Chaironeia en 338 aC. El monumento fue completado por su hijo Alejandro Magno.

El museo de Arquímedes (matemático) es considerado como uno de los principales científicos de la antigüedad clásica. Un museo único en el centro de la antigua Olimpia dedicado a la "Mente más grande" de todos los tiempos. Everything was perfect, starting with the weather (sunny but with a refreshing breeze): we were able to do the tour at our pace and Yannis proved yet again that he's a fountain of knowledge on the sites we visited and on the ones we saw along the way. Ancient Olympia archeological site is huge and magnificent but with Yannis' help all was clearer. The stop to a restaurant to get some energy for the rest of the tour was as always enjoyable. We really appreciated the patience and kindness of Yannis, and we can only hope to return to Greece as quickly as we can !

Wonderful experience! Peter was fantastic and very helpful. He went out of his way to help us get pictures! I would recommend booking a guide for inside the museum and ruins at Olympia, but Peter had a great video outlining what the buildings looked like originally for us to watch after visiting. Visiting ancient Olympia was a bucket list experience for me. Seeing (and learning about) the Corinth Canal was an unexpected bonus. Our guide, Yannis, was amazing. Yeah, the ride to and from Athens was a little long, but the stories and history that Yannis shared along the way made the time pass by quickly. I'll be recommending this trip to my friends and family.
