I deployed to Doha in 2004 and we specifically stopped here for 22 hours using a great Q-suite award booking on our way to a cruise so my husband could see where I spent several months. Because we landed at 5 pm I thought my only option would be Ubering to a souq or mall for a few hours, with me narrating what little I could remember of the area. I never thought I’d find a night tour but I’m so glad I did – with departures as late as 10 pm directly from the airport, or your hotel! Though obviously night time in the summer is slightly more comfortable and better for tours, I never imagined companies would actually offer late night tours. Both my husband and I really loved this 5-star private tour Sam provided from 8:45 pm to 1:30 am! Sam was so accommodating. I booked it last minute, at 6:30 pm, after struggling to figure out how we would get to one of the pre-populated departure hotels, not finding ours, and then seeing the option “my hotel is not listed” and finally entering my own hotel. Before that I was planning to walk 19 minutes to the Hilton Pearl in 100+ degrees. I’m so glad I was able to enter my own hotel, St Regis Pearl, and avoid that uncomfortable walk. Sam responded right away to confirm the pick-up location, and I asked if we could leave a little earlier than the designated time. Since he was available, he happily obliged and our scheduled 9 pm tour started early. Our first stop was the Souq Waqif where we were surprised to see 50+ royal camels! This was the first time my husband had seen so many camels and he took lots of pictures. Even at night the pictures came out great. Then we went straight to one of the Falcon souqs and were able to pet and be a perch for a beautiful white gyr falcon! I had not seen this souq 22 years ago and had only read about them days before, and figured these would only be open during the day. Delightfully Sam proved me wrong, showing us camels and falcons in the first 2 stops of our tour; these were true highlights of the evening and we could have ended the trip right there fully satisfied! But Sam had more to show us. We visited more souqs, then made several photo stops along the Corniche visiting the palace, dhow marina, Museum of Islamic Art area, Pearl monument, FIFA sculpture, skyline viewpoints, the Villagio Mall, beautiful public art, the Katara cultural center (not to be missed!), spectacular architecture, Raffles, Lusail, and The Pearl. Along the way Sam impressed us with his extensive knowledge of the area, culture, history, and current events. We saw so much in these few hours we decided there was no need to go out in the heat the next morning to see anything else. We left with a great appreciation for how Qatar’s recently passed leader shaped the country and the city into the safe, modern, beautiful, and progressive place that it is today. I would not hesitate to return, despite world events deterring others. Words cannot adequately express how much Sam, this tour, and Doha exceeded our expectations.
This review is late in coming but very important. We hired Asif for a day in Doha. He arrived absolutely on the stroke of the hour, his car was spotless and he was dressed professionally., His English is very good . He had a keen sense of what we liked and what we could skip and showed us a fabulous day. We were so impressed that we wanted to hire him for another day. We hated to say goodbye at the end. This man is an asset to his country. You cannot go wrong hiring him! I hope tourism picks up so we don't lose this valuable guide to some other profession.
Our guide Mr. Asif was extremely courteous, very helpful and generally a pleasure to be around. He was very knowledgeable and was able to tell us about the history and the culture of Qatar in a lot of detail. Mr. Asif made every effort to accommodate us (a family of 4 with young children), including showing us amazing flexibility with making it a bespoke tour for us. We would highly recommend Mr. Asif to everyone!
Asif has great historical knowledge of Qatar and Doha. Excellent driving and superb guidance. I thoroughly enjoyed the attractions and interesting facts and a game of Dama. I will visit and stay in Doha again
This was an amazing tour we learn so much about the culture/ traditions and history - he recommended food places
Asif was a knowledgeable and attentive guide.
Our guide was wonderful. Very friendly, patient (the traffic was awful) and knowledgeable. We had a great afternoon and evening exploring the city as it came alive. We were given a good introduction to Doha from old to new and learned about how it has evolved in the last 50 years into the vibrant modern city it is today, while respecting its rich history. Thank you for an enriching tour.
This was a wonderful experience. I got to see Qatar on a deep level and it was beautiful. My tour guide was so kind and knowledgeable about Qatar and he made me feel very comfortable and safe. Be prepared to walk a lot! It was a lovely tour and I’d highly recommend it.
It’s a very good introduction if first time in Doha to get an overview and some facts and anecdotes of the city. The dhow boat cruise appeared to be more for the ones not having any hearing ability left as the sound of the blasters accompanying the views of the harbor was too loud to enjoy. Bring ear plugs if you want to safeguard your hearing. Otherwise, absolutely a good combo and nice introduction to the area.
Amazing experience and love the view
