Eche un vistazo panorámico a la pintoresca ciudad desde el templo en la cima de la colina de Swayambhunath (Templo de los monos), uno de los lugares populares para los visitantes y los principales sitios budistas en Nepal con más de 3000 años de historia.

Taleju Bhawani es una de las diosas más poderosas y también es considerada como la diosa del clan de los reyes de Malla que gobernó Nepal desde el siglo XII hasta el siglo XVIII debido a que el templo de la diosa está presente en tres ciudades principales, Katmandú, Bhaktapur y Patan. La diosa tiene cuatro cabezas y diez brazos y los tres templos tienen estatuas doradas y trabajos en metal que representan a la diosa. Los templos albergan los santuarios de las diosas Taleju Bhawani y Living Goddess Kumari.
Este palacio fascinante es el hogar de una niña virgen que es adorada como la diosa Durga en forma humana. A veces se la puede ver en sus ventanas.
En esta plaza viven monos reales, construidos para honrar al travieso y valiente dios mono Hanuman dentro de la plaza Durbar de Katmandú.
Principales sitios hindúes
Templo Pashupatinath Pashupatinath es uno de los santuarios hindúes más sagrados del mundo y se encuentra a 5 km al este del centro de la ciudad. La pagoda ricamente ornamentada alberga el sagrado Linga, o símbolo fálico, de Lord Shiva. Las crónicas indican la existencia del templo antes del año 400 DC. Se puede ver a los devotos sumergiéndose ritualmente en el río sagrado Bagmati que fluye al lado del templo.
Este lugar está en constante acción, me recuerda mucho a la India pero con más reverencia y menos exageración. Las tarifas de entrada a Pashupatinath funcionan aquí.
Más tarde, Boudhanath visita Boudhanath, la estupa budista de 2500 años de antigüedad en el Valle, construida en el siglo V con cuatro pares de ojos del Señor Buda en cuatro direcciones cardinales, vigilando eternamente a las personas y sus acciones. Encontrarás peregrinos budistas del Tíbet dando vueltas alrededor de la estupa haciendo girar las ruedas de oración.

Unfortunately I did not record the names of the places we visited but the first two sites were really interesting with great architecture. The apparition of the Kumari at Her window for a few seconds was kind of odd but I guess an interesting part of Nepalese religious culture. We were less impressed by the white giant stupa. The visit of the crematorium was morbid but once again showing a part of Nepalese culture.
Excellent guide providing history of each site visited and meaning behind monuments. Would. Recommend the tour has a excellent starter to your experience in Kathmandu

We booked a 1 1/2 day tour at Himalayan Recreation - on the first day we got to know Kathmandu (Swayambhunath / Monkey Temple, Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple and Bouddhanath Stupa). Our guide Angel as well as our driver led us through the hectic hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, which was often too much for us. On the second day we went to Nagarkot and Bhaktapur. And last but not least, we cooked together with the staff of Himalayan Recreation because we wanted to get to know Nepalese cuisine. Although we didn’t like the hustle and bustle, traffic and dirt in Kathmandu, Himalayan Recreation gave us an unadorned and memorable picture of Kathmandu.
I was very pleased with this tour and with my guide, Krishna A. He was very kind and patient, giving lots of good details about each site we visited. He took his time to make sure we were not rushed through the tour. Would definitely recommend to other first-time visitors to Kathmandu.
We had a great tour with Sudipa, a very friendly and well informed female guide. She has a good knowledge and answered all our questions. After all there’s so much to see and she taughed us also a lot about culture and the life in Kathmandu and Nepal. When we got tired she changed the tour a little so we were able to see everything, she’s very caring. We enjoyed our day very much and would definitely recommend this tour.
