Must-Do for a Unique Experience in Amsterdam!

This was our family’s first food tour and it did not disappoint! Esther was fabulous and willing to adjust stops based on our family’s wants and needs, but we still had delicious Dutch, Surinamese, and other cuisines that we would’ve never been exposed to. She even introduced us to a special spirit, Genever, that was smooth and interesting. We also loved walking around the De Pijp neighborhood which we had not been to. HIGHLY recommend!

Amazing, World Class Food Tour

Our tour with Anne, one of the co-owners of Hungry Birds, was amazing, outstanding, delicious, and a treat. I dislike superlatives, but even that batch doesn't capture the experience we had with her today. We began with a bit of getting acquainted coffee and conversation that was like an amuse bouche, then sauntered into the mains - a dozen spots the average tourists like us would never know on our own, a carefuly curated offering from a melange of cultures, a mix of sweet, savory, and spicy. I don't want to give specifics in case the destinations change, but each place we stopped was not only a joyous and often thrilling taste experience, but each one came with a very personal backstory that gave us insight into Amsterdam's deliciously diverse culture - and that was the real event. Yes, we learned about the food, but in the process we got a full serving of information about life in Amsterdam. With Anne, we also got one of the great smiles and personalities this city has to offer - someone who is charming, passionate, crackling with personality and intelligence, and gifted with the kind of clarity that makes a tour more like a visit with a newfound friend. That's what good food does. It brings people together and leaves you eager for a next time. There are many food tours in Amsterdam. I just can't imagine any better. (Pro tip: Do not eat breakfast.)

Really worth the experience.

HIGHLY Recommend!! Ana was our guide and was very knowledgeable and well known my the shop owners. I appreciated the time she took to learn about the people in the group and their food preferences. It’s walking (perhaps a lot for some) but there were times for rest to enjoy the food that was prepared for us. My daughter and I throughly enjoyed all the food options - some new cuisines that we had never tried before and they were delicious. The tour also included history of the restaurants, parts of the city and recommendations to try on our visit.

Highly Recommend for everyone who likes food!

Ana our guide was excellent and very informative. She knew all the proprietors we visited and they treated her like family. It was wonderful to be submerged in the local food culture for a few hours. Highly recommend.

Havy overpriced tour with an American guide

Not recommended, not worth the money. One would expect a local guide. We had an American emigrant living only 2 month in Amsterdam, but was able to Google. Food for about 20 to 30€ mostly standing. Just don't do it.

Best food tour in Amsterdam

We were so lucky to discover Hungry Birds' Original Street Food Tour! We had the good fortune to be guided by the company's founder, Esther. A Netherlands native, she's half Dutch, half Indonesian and 100% Amsterdammer. Our tour focused on the diverse, exciting De Pijp neighborhood and its grand old Albert Cuyp Market. If it's not sold there, you probably don't need it. We ate and drank and walked for 4.5 hours straight with a small, convivial group of world travelers of all ages. We were all food tour groupies, too, game for sampling the special food traditions of this place. And did we get them! From herring to jenever (medievel ancestor of modern gin) to stroopwafels ... we tried it all. Esther knows everyone, it seems. She had a back door into every establishment, so we skipped every line. Better yet, she clearly had a strong, authentic relationship to the vendors we were meeting at every stop. Her passion for the people and the place makes all the difference, and truly sets this food tour apart from the others. Hartelijk bedankt!

Amazing food tour!

Anne was an amazing guide!! We had a wonderful time exploring neighborhoods we may not have gone to otherwise. She is extremely knowledgable and we learned many facts about Amsterdam, the Netherlands and all the international cultures that make Amsterdam such a diverse community with fabulous food! We would highly recommend Hungry Birds!!!!! Loved them :)

Great conversation and yummy food

We had an excellent afternoon with Anna exploring six locations in a quiet Amsterdam neighborhood. Anna is a great story teller and selected an interesting variety of cuisine types to highlight different food movements within Amsterdam. Especially enjoyed the Suriname sandwich at the end. Thanks Anna!

Absolute highlight for a visit to Amsterdam

We booked the Food Tour in February. It was our first time in Amsterdam and despite many other great experiences our absolute highlight during our time in Amsterdam. We were shown very small and special places, but also some classics. The food was really delicious and partly exceptional. The tour was very personal and dedicated with lots of information and insights about the dishes and the history behind them. Our dog was also with us, which did not pose a problem at all. We would definitely recommend the tour. Thanks for the lovely time and all the love, Oliver, Inga & Mila

Really upsetting experience

I booked this tour on their website for December 26 (apparently a holiday in the Netherlands) a full two days ahead and everything seemed to go through without issue. On the day of the tour I woke up to an email from the company saying my credit card had been declined. I called my CC company and they said everything was fine, that I the payment had gone through. I tried calling and emailing Hungry Birds several times but got no answer. I went to the meeting point to try and join the tour anyway and found that there was nobody there. I now have come to the conclusion that they didn’t want to run the tour today and forgot to remove the availability from their website. This whole experience has wasted my time and caused a huge inconvenience while on a very costly holiday. It is even more frustrating as it could have been remedied with a simple, timely email or phone call. Very, very disappointing.
