I had a great tour with Sam! He was very knowledgeable about the food, its origins and even about Kyoto in general. Super friendly and very accommodating.
This food tour with Nick was excellent! We enjoyed a quieter less touristy area of Kyoto we definitely would have missed out on if not for this tour. Nick took us to some super delicious spots with memorable bites and opened our eyes, minds, and stomachs to the history of the area. While all the stops are amazing and well curated, we personally especially loved the matcha dessert, making matcha activity, curry pan, taiyaki of various flavors, wagyu steak and sake. All of these experiences made this tour such an incredible value! Even after the trip, we enjoyed Nick's recommendations for checking out the nearby sake museum and even a Portland coffee shop (we are from Portland) close to our hotel that had probably the best coffee we've had on our trip! Thanks Nick, for being a charming tour guide. It was like hanging out with a long lost friend. We appreciate the adaptiveness and special care of Kyle who was experiencing a moment of vertigo during the tour. 11/10 would book again!
Nick, our tour guide, was excellent! I love the fact that we went to Fushimi and this was a hidden gem. As Nick said, it's what Kyoto used to be in the 90's when he first arrived in Japan. Few tourists and we tried the local delicacies. Nick was so entertaining and knowledgeable, teaching us not only about the food but the Japanese culture and the mannerisms which are hard to grasp for Westerners. I highly recommend this tour and Nick!
My friend Steve and I had an incredible time on the Kyoto Hidden Gem Food Tour in Fushimi! We tried so many delicious local foods—takoyaki, karaage, taiyaki, and yakitori—each spot felt like a true hidden gem. We also got to enjoy some excellent Japanese sake, which really completed the experience. Our guide Nick was super friendly, knowledgeable, and made the tour feel relaxed and fun. He shared great insights about the local area and food culture, and it really felt like we were exploring Kyoto with a local friend. One of the most memorable parts was when he told us the story of Sakamoto Ryoma while we stood near a historical spot related to him. We had such a good time and would definitely consider joining again next time we're in Kyoto. Highly recommended!
Great tour with Nick! He's very knowledgable about the area and has connections only a local could. Karaage is to die for. Takoyaki experience was my fav.
Experience fully recommended. A street food tour in a more secluded area of the most touristic Kyoto, on a shopping street with a great historical weight in Japan. The food is delicious and varied, excellent to be able to taste different cuisine of the country, and accompanied by a friendly, friendly and knowledgeable guide on the history behind each meal that is tasted on the tour. In case you come to Kyoto and want to have a visit to its less commercial part, I recommend trying this tour. Thank you very much for the experience!
We had a fantastic time on this Kyoto food tour in Fushimi Momoyama! Every stop was a highlight, from the bacon and egg taiyaki (like a McMuffin!) to the crisp, gooey curry pan. The Peko Chan custardo pan was a sweet surprise (did you know Peko Chan has a boyfriend?), and making our own matcha at the cafe was a fun and hands-on experience. The karaage was next-level—crispy and marinated, packed with flavor—and the tour ended on a high with premium wagyu and sake. Special thanks to Nick, our incredible guide, who made the experience truly memorable with his knowledge, energy, and hospitality. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Kyoto who wants a delicious, fun, and cultural experience!
The Momoyama food tour took me to a different and quaint side of Kyoto with a rich history from the samurai era. We got to learn the stories behind each street food we tried and our guide Nick was fantastic and engaging. My highlight is the sake tasting with Wagyu beef at the end when we shared our love for Japanese cuisines in a Japanese bar setting. The tour is highly recommended if you want to make new friends and try classic Japanese street food.
Yes, I am not joking with that title. The fried chicken on this tour is the best I have ever had. When looking back on my trip, this tour was one of the highlights, and especially the fried chicken makes me want to visit again. The neighbourhood was so nice, and actually walkable compared to other parts of the city (so crowded). Overall it had great food, great views, and a phenomenal experience!
