It was a one day tour to sheki. Eventhough the compilation of the places visited was less exciting compared to the gobustan tour, the guide Nazir, kept things interesting. He shared alot of information and kept the whole group engaging in conversation. His witty humour made things fun and the whole tour was entertaining.

My wife and I booked this experience through TripAdvisor/Viator because our biggest dream was to visit Sheki and stay for one night to enjoy the little town without any rush. It was based on this tour that we built our itinerary and the activities we were going to do. One day before the experience, and not having received a message confirming the meeting point, I wrote to the operator confirming my experience and the final details of the experience. However, the operator wrote to me saying they were unaware of our experience because the confirmation email was in SPAM and they hadn't seen it, but that they offered to reschedule it for another day or provide a refund, which caused anger and indignation on our part. Despite this, we requested a refund for the experience, which they processed immediately, which is appreciated. My final recommendation is, if you book with this tour, you must confirm with the operator beforehand to avoid them canceling your experience, since, despite everything, they proved to be a formal and serious company that cares about travelers.

I booked the Gabala & Sheki 2-Day Tour by Azerbaijan Travel International because it was advertised as one organised two-day experience. The destinations themselves are beautiful, and our guide Emiliya was excellent. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and did everything she could. Unfortunately, the organisation behind the tour was extremely disappointing. If you’re considering booking this tour, I strongly recommend reading the reviews from my fellow travellers as well. Together, they provide the full picture of what went wrong. In my opinion, this two-day “tour” is simply a rip-off. It is marketed as one organised tour where you are accompanied by the same tour guide from departure in Baku until your return to Baku. In reality, it is nothing more than two separate day tours with an overnight stay in between. After the first day, you are left to arrange your own accommodation, and on the second day you simply join a completely different group arriving from Baku around midday. What made this even more frustrating was that none of this was communicated in advance. We had been in contact with the company before the tour and were never told that the “2-day tour” was actually structured this way. We only realised it late in the afternoon of the first day, when it became clear that our guide would not continue with us and that we would have to wait until around midday the next day to join a different group. That is not what most people would expect when booking a two-day tour. The transfer between Gabala and Sheki was one of the biggest disappointments. Instead of continuing in an organised tour vehicle, we were dropped off at a souvenir shop and then put into what appeared to be a privately arranged taxi. It genuinely felt as though someone simply handed the driver some cash and asked him to take us to Sheki. The journey took another 1.5 hours, the car had little to no air conditioning, there were not enough proper seat belts, and the driver’s aggressive driving style made us feel genuinely unsafe for much of the journey. This was not what we expected when booking an organised two-day tour. Communication about our complaint was equally frustrating. Instead of genuinely addressing the issues we raised, we kept receiving what felt like the same generic, AI-generated response over and over again. Even when we responded to specific points, we would receive another repetitive message explaining why further compensation was “not possible because we would no longer make a profit.” It felt like no one was actually engaging with what we were saying. Although the company admitted that their communication had been confusing, they still refused what we considered a reasonable solution. By that point, we had completely lost confidence in the company and decided to cancel the second day of the tour. Looking back, I would strongly recommend not booking this package. If you still want to travel with Azerbaijan Travel International, I would recommend booking the Gabala and Sheki day tours separately instead. If you want to stay overnight in Sheki, ask to be dropped off in Gabala after the first tour and arrange your own Bolt to Sheki. Based on our experience, it would likely be cheaper, more comfortable, and a far better experience overall. It’s unfortunate that what should have been one of the highlights of our trip ended up having a negative impact on our overall experience in Azerbaijan.

We booked the 2-day Gabala & Sheki Tour with Azerbaijan International Travel for three people. While there were some positive aspects, the overall experience fell well below our expectations. First of all, our tour guide Emiliya was excellent. She was friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and did everything she could to make the experience enjoyable. None of the issues below were her fault. Unfortunately, the organisation and communication from Azerbaijan International Travel were disappointing. A few days before departure, we were informed via WhatsApp that we had to book our own hotel in Sheki, despite the website giving the impression that accommodation was arranged as part of the tour. We also discovered during the tour that the second day is essentially a separate day tour. After being dropped off in Sheki on the first day, there were no planned activities until around midday the next day. This meant spending almost half of the second day waiting instead of sightseeing. This was never made clear before booking. The website also stated that the cable car was included, yet we still had to pay 20 AZN per person ourselves. Another surprise was that the remaining balance of 480 AZN had to be paid in cash during the tour. This was never communicated beforehand. Requiring travellers to carry such a large amount of cash without prior notice is simply not acceptable. The transfer between Gabala and Sheki was in a private car with insufficient seat belts and no functioning air conditioning, and a driver that had a driving style that did require seat belts. What disappointed us most was how our complaints were handled. The company acknowledged that several parts of the communication had indeed been confusing and misleading, but repeatedly told us that fair compensation was not possible because they would otherwise no longer make a profit. To make matters even more frustrating, customer service first contacted us via WhatsApp offering 150 AZN compensation per person (out of the 200 AZN per person we had paid for the tour). Shortly afterwards, they informed us that this had been a mistake and reduced the offer to just 50 AZN per person, which even included the 20 AZN per person we had unexpectedly paid ourselves for the cable car. This was yet another example of the unclear communication we experienced throughout the tour. In the end, we accepted a compromise. We received 50 AZN per person in compensation and a 50% refund for the second day, as we decided not to continue the tour. After the way our concerns were handled, we simply no longer felt comfortable travelling with the company and arranged our own return journey. The destinations themselves are beautiful, and Emiliya deserves a lot of credit for making the best of the situation. However, the organisation, transparency and communication fell far below what we expect from a professional tour operator. To receive the refund, we also had to travel to the company’s office ourselves. When we arrived, the girl at the desk had not been informed that we were supposed to receive a refund. This was not her fault, however, it was yet another example of the poor internal communication within the company, which unfortunately reflected the overall experience we had with Azerbaijan International Travel.

Sheki stole a piece of my heart. Its charming streets, rich history, and the breathtaking Palace of the Sheki Khans made it one of the highlights of my trip. Our tour guide, Mr. Nazir, was knowledgeable and friendly. His stories brought Sheki’s history and culture to life, making the tour truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Azerbaijan!

Beautiful excursion to Sheki. The road may not be close, but it's worth it. Outside the window you can see the great views of the great Caucasus ridge. In Sheki is a very beautiful palace of the Sheki Khans. I wish I could take pictures inside. And the town itself is very nice. Long but very busy tour, perhaps time wasted Breakfast and tea party themed Bus and driving comfortable Guide Oghuz is very professional, his stories create whole pictures in his head, you can directly see how he visualizes everything in his head and broadcasts to the listener, his knowledge of the story is a separate conversation at all, you can talk about it for hours here, really good💪🏻 Sheki impressed,very atmospheric place,dinner is very delicious🙏🏻 Thank you for all ATİ travel🤝

Beautiful tour, stunning views of Azerbaijan. If you want to see the internal component of Azerbaijan, then you need to travel outside Baku, including Sheka. And the amazing guides will tell you everything. Thank you so much Oguz for telling us everything in great detail.
