We had a fabulous day visiting Windsor Castle and Oxford! Everything was well organized from start to finish. Our tour guide (Manon & Adrian) was amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience enjoyable with interesting stories and local insights. Travelling in a small group made a huge difference. It was comfortable, convenient, and much more personal than a large coach tour. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy each destination. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Windsor Castle and Oxford. It was truly a 5-star experience!

James was a great tour guide. It was just the right balance of being guided and then given free time to explore on our own.
Thank you for your review! We're delighted James provided the perfect balance of guidance and time to explore independently. We hope to see you again soon!

Went to Oxford and Windsor. with my 11 year old. She loved it, and was entertained for most of the 9 hours. Wish we had more time in Oxford though, she was definitely inspired. Cameron, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and fun to listen to! He talks fast and is quick witted, so perfect for those interested in learning! Tony was our driver, he was awesome!

The tour goes to Oxford first, then to Windsor - which means the time in Oxford is highly regimented with scant (approx 1/2 hour) time to explore by yourself whereas in Windsor — where, apart from the castle, there is far less to explore, as it’s a tiny town with a run-of-the-mill pedestrian mall dominating the town center — you are given almost 3 hours. Odd order by the tour operator; not what the title of the tour suggests. Other aspects of the tour description are equally questionable: “visit to the Bodleian library”? You are taken into the court yard but aren’t allowed to go inside the library. “Guided tour of Windsor”? You are walked around the tiny town, which takes about 15 minutes, but after that are left to your own devices. You tour the castle on your own. Last but not least: the guide: after all, the main ingredient of a guided tour. We had Simon, who seemed a bit ill at ease with the tour’s itinerary. He repeatedly mentioned all the things we would not get to see, but ought to come back for with more time at our disposal. He seemed knowledgeable enough, although I would have wished for more historical information rather than hearing about Harry Potter or the ethymology of various expressions or words that had little to do with the places we were visiting (apart from being in England). It didn’t help matters that Simon shepherded us along with the demeanor of a middle school teacher corralling a bunch of wayward school children; a little grace or humor would have gone a long way to making the tour more enjoyable.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback about your experience. We're sorry to hear that the itinerary did not meet your expectations. Our tours are carefully designed to balance travel times, attraction opening hours, and the overall guest experience, although we understand that individual preferences for time spent at each destination can vary. We appreciate your comments regarding the order of the visits and the amount of free time allocated at each location, and these will be shared with our Product and Operations teams for review. We also appreciate your observations about the tour description. Our intention is to accurately reflect what is included, and we will review your comments to ensure our descriptions are as clear as possible regarding guided and self-guided elements of the experience. We're sorry that Simon's guiding style was not what you had hoped for. While we're pleased to hear you found him knowledgeable, we regret that the commentary and delivery did not fully align with your expectations. This is an entire 3 hours of walking at each location. They give you 30 minutes for lunch and souvenirs. While seeing the area is awesome and educational it was a lot of walking. Simon was our guide and he was nice and knowledgeable but at Windsor there is no need to walk around the back to see the 3 mile drive since you have to walk all the way back to the entrance. We wanted to spend that time in the castle.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your comments regarding the amount of walking involved during the tour. As we visit historic sites and cover a full day's itinerary, a moderate amount of walking is required, and we understand that this can be more demanding than some guests anticipate. We're pleased to hear that you found the experience educational and that Simon was knowledgeable and friendly throughout the day. We will be sure to pass along your kind words to him. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the route at Windsor Castle. We understand your preference to have spent more time exploring the castle itself, and your comments will be shared with our Operations team as we continually review our itineraries to enhance the guest experience. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback, and we hope to welcome you on another tour in the future. Kind Regards, Evan Evans Team
If you do this tour with Evan Evans, then ask for Cameron. you will be glad you did. I am not a big fan of castles, but Windsor is one of those things you have to do. Cameron makes it all enjoyable. He is bright, articulate, quite funny and you will learn a lot. He knows so much about the little bits that, as I write this 36 hours later, I am trying to remember my favorites of all the tidbits he shared. Cameron -if you are reading this - it's Christopher Wren's columns, but I won't spoil it for anyone who ends up on your tour. It's a 3.5/4 star tour without him, but If Cameron were to start his own tour company where you stared at sand for 6 hours, he'd make it fun and enjoyable.
Dear Guest, Thank you for your fantastic and entertaining review! We're delighted to hear that Cameron helped make your Windsor experience such a memorable one. It’s wonderful to know that his knowledge, humour, and engaging storytelling brought the history to life and added so much value to your day. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with him — and we’re sure he’ll appreciate your Christopher Wren reference! We love hearing that Cameron’s passion for sharing fascinating details and stories helped turn a visit to a castle into a highlight of your trip. Our guides strive to make every experience enjoyable, informative, and memorable for all guests. Thank you for choosing Evan Evans Tours and for your recommendation. We hope to welcome you back for another great adventure soon! Warm regards, Evan Evans Tours Team
The tour goes to Oxford first, then to Windsor, which means that most of the “free time” to explore on your own is in Windsor whereas your time in Oxford is highly regimented. Windsor is cute, but has far less to offer for exploration than Oxford. Also, the “guided tour of Windsor” is just that — a walking tour of the tiny village of Windsor, NOT of Windsor Castle. That should have been made clearer in the tour description. Finally, the advertised “visit to the Bodleian library” is limited to a quick peek into the courtyard, in front of the library but does NOT enter the library itself which, again, is a bit misleading advertising copy. The tour guide, Simon, was knowledgeable about the buildings we walked past and also had some interesting tidbits to share re: the etymology of some words and phrases (where does “posh” come from, or the “graveyard shift”, or “hangover”), none of which were directly pertinent to the tour. I would have liked to hear more context, more history, more narrative rather than a description of a building’s function. It didn’t help that Simon wielded his power to shepherd the group along the ambitious timetable without grace or humor. All in all, I would have skipped this tour if I had known what exactly it entailed and just taken a train to Oxford myself. It was still a decent experience though, YMMV.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback with us. We’re pleased to hear that you appreciated Simon’s knowledge and the interesting insights he shared throughout the day. We’ll be sure to pass along your comments regarding his historical knowledge and storytelling. We’re sorry to hear that aspects of the itinerary and tour description did not meet your expectations. We understand how important it is for guests to have a clear understanding of what is included, particularly regarding the time allocated at each destination and the specific access provided at locations such as Windsor Castle and the Bodleian Library. We appreciate you highlighting these points and will share your feedback with our team as we review how we communicate the tour inclusions and itinerary. We also value your comments regarding the balance of historical context and sightseeing commentary. Our goal is to provide an engaging experience that brings the destinations to life, and your suggestions will help us continue to improve the way our guides deliver these stories. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for choosing Evan Evans Tours. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on another tour in the future and provide an experience that better matches your expectations. Warm regards, Evan Evans Tours Team
