First off, this was very expensive for our family even with the deal. That being said…….Wonderful day trip to see so much of the property at Versailles Palace. We loved our tour guide, Bart! He was so easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about French history and culture pertinent to the palace. So huge shout out to BART! Such an incredible way to see the extravagant lifestyle and history of these kings. The biking wasn’t too strenuous as we would get off periodically and walk around. Plus we went to a market first thing and purchased picnic items (brioche literally melts in your mouth!) and midway through our bike tour he spread our a tarp where we all ate our picnic by the canal. Magical and lovely day I will relive over and over as one of my favorite memories!
It was, unfortunately, not a terribly informative tour, and the guide was borderline rude and disrespectful. He would tell us long stories, peppered with stale jokes, then said we needed to hurry, because we were running late. Riding the bike did make traversing the grounds much easier, but I'd recommend you simply rent one on your own and download a self-guided tour on your phone. You'll get just as much out of the experience, for for less money.
Very poor communication about starting point. Would recommend booking directly with Fat Bike Tours and ask for JP
This trip was one of our favorite. We did the full day and if you have smaller children I would recommend the half day becayse it is a long day. Wonderful wonderful tour. I went with my husband and 4 teenage daughters. We all loved the bike rides through the town, the picnic lunch and the tour of Versailles. It was a wonderful experience.
The guide was great and highly knowledgeable about the palace, grounds and french history. They lost a star because 1/2 the tour was around a big pond and stopping for a very long lunch. It would be better if we got more time at the secondary houses and palaces. I also found it odd how the tour ends at the main palace for a visit when the lines are longest vs starting with the palace on the AM and learning about what we saw afterwords. A good tour but not deserving of 5 stars
Wonderful tour of the palace and grounds of Versailles. The in depth history was told in a colorful way. The team reached out ahead of time to check with us to see if we were running late and had some bring us to the group when we arrived. The bike if was not strenuous, and the bikes were in terrific condition. Our guide Nicholas had an in-depth knowledge of the history and shared it in a colorful way. (He even made it PG for the kids - as we know history isn’t.) We highly recommend the tour company and especially Nicholas. There was no tour of the palace but it wasn’t needed as we already had learned so much on our tour. We shopped for our picnic before our tour at the local farmers’ market.
We took our family of five on this tour. We have boys ages 6, 10, & 12. This was by far their favorite thing we did in Paris! We loved riding the bike, picking our food for the picnic and all that we learned on the tour. Our tour guide was Jen- she was amazing. This was booked through Unlimited Biking. We highly recommend!
Our guide, Bartok (Bart), started us off at the market, where he shared his recommendations for the perfect picnic. Then, we got on our bikes and headed up to the grounds of Versailles. It was an incredible experience made even more special with his knowledgeable commentary. With his history lessons fresh in mind, we then started our self-guided tour of the castle itself. This will be one of our highlights of our trip to France. We can’t recommend Bart enough!
The bike portion with our guide, Bart was wonderful. Bikes are truly the best way we could explore the gardens, hear about the history. The picnic lunch was lovely and a highlight of the day. Prior to the bike tour, we went to the shops to purchase our food and our guide gave ideas for shops to visit. Bart was funny, knowledgeable and attentive to all of the group. The only part of the tour which was challenging was after we said goodbye to Bart and toured the palace. The crowds were intense, particularly after a calm, beautiful bike tour. Our family agreed the tour of the palace was secondary to our tour with Bart.
Thank you, Kendra! We're so happy to hear the bike portion with Bart was a highlight, and that biking turned out to be the best way to take in the gardens and history. Glad the picnic lunch added to the fun too. Hope to welcome you back for another adventure!
Annie, our guide was excellent company and shared many interesting anecdotes and facts about the royaltiy who built Versailles. Many thanks to her & Unlimited Biking.
Thank you, Donna! We're delighted Annie made such great company and shared so many interesting stories about the royals behind Versailles. We'll be sure to pass your thanks along to her and the team. Hope to see you again soon!
