We did the bus ride with brochure guide, nothing extra. It was exactly what we wanted: a convenient way to visit Matera and Alberobelo without worrying about parking, directions, starting points. They did that for us! I would recommend.
I was looking forward to this tour and I booked 2 tickets that included a guided tour at Matera. What went right Alberobero is a beautiful scenic city. We followed the Google maps which was easy to see. There was narration that you can use. It would have been good to What went wrong: We booked an English tour with a live guide at Matera and we were grouped with Spanish and Italian. There were about 25 people plus and this made the tour overly long. The tout guy, although passionate had to repeat things like 3 times. Even though the coach company staff came to assist with the Spanish speaking customer, she wasn't a guide so this guy was the knowledge and still repeated If you are going to do a multilingual tour then put that on your advert. I timed the tour and the tour that was meant to take an hour and half took 2 hours 50 minutes by the time we returned to the square. Matera is much bigger than Alberobero so you can't really wander off too much. We had 20 mins after spare before we got back to the meeting place. That ruined the tour as there is an element where you are meant to wander around and enjoy lunch etc. There were quite a few on our tour who were very unhappy. The worst part of the experience was boarding the return coach. We boarded like everyone else, without any issues. When the driver came to count passengers, he came straight to us and immediately demanded to see our tickets, without asking anyone else. We were the only Black women on the tour. He then launched into an Italian monologue implying that this wasn't a public bus. I explained that my concern was why we were being singled out when no one else was being questioned. After I showed him my ticket, it became clear that although there were two coaches, passengers were expected to return on the same coach they had arrived on. There were other passengers who had also boarded the wrong coach, yet we were the only ones challenged in this manner. Being shouted at in Italian and made to appear as though we were trying to board without a ticket was unnecessary and humiliating. That kind of treatment is not what I came on holiday to experience. Would I recommend this tour? No. If you're interested in seeing the city, I'd suggest booking the shortest tour or exploring independently. You'll likely have a far more enjoyable experience. . It's a very long day from 8:30am to 6:30/7pm
Alberobello and Matera are two unique cities to see. We appreciated the punctuality of the service.
A wonderful way to see both places seamlessly and in the same day. I would highly recommend this tour. Having the option of a tour guide at Matera was great.
We went on the full day tour of Alberobello and Matera including an olive oil tasting. Our bus had air conditioning and was comfortable. We opted for the tour guide option in both cities. Our guide in Alberobello was Michela and she was lovely and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed visiting and learning about Alberobello with her. In Matera, our guide was Pasquale. He gave us so much information and history about the city. We had a wonderful tour with him. At the end of the tour, there is an option to either walk down to the main piazza or to take a bus for 1.50 Euro. We were all very happy to take the bus. Both guides are local to their city and we met them there. They didn’t travel with us from Bari. We would recommend this tour to anyone who would like to visit both cities and would rather not drive themselves.
A well run and manged day out. All ran like clockwork and we would have no hesitation in recommending this experience. Matera is bigger than you may think too.
Beautiful activity, beautiful places with a lot of history, the guides were very attentive. It was all as mentioned in the advertisement.
A very rewarding experience but a full on day, especially in 40° C heat! Very well organised and good value for money. The coach was very comfortable and cool. The drop off point in Matera wasn't ideal. It was quite a long way to the Centro Storico and no toilet facilities at drop off/pick up point. Both Alberobello and Matera are fantastic places to visit. Alberobello is very pretty and Matera very dramatic.
Not well organized... we did not like the guide at all. Confusing and unclear, speaking half in Italian and half in Spanish.
Comfortable double decker bus with ac that takes you to both stops. They will prov8de guide documentation for you to follow.
