En este tour en grupo pequeño "Tras los pasos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial" nos sumergimos en la historia. Esta es una gran adición a los tours sobre la historia judía en Amsterdam y la Casa de Ana Frank. Visitamos un antiguo campo de concentración nazi, con sus cuarteles, memoriales y crematorio. Corrie Ten Boom fue encarcelado aquí durante la guerra. Muchos niños judíos fueron enviados a Polonia desde aquí y cientos de miembros de la resistencia fueron ejecutados. También visitaremos los sitios de la Operación Market Garden y la batalla de Arnhem : ¿cuál era el plan y cómo fracasó? ¿Cuáles fueron las implicaciones para el pueblo Holandés y las fuerzas aliadas? Itinerario
Visitamos el antiguo campo de concentración nazi de Vught en el sur de Holanda. El campo se utilizó por primera vez en 1942 y albergó a 31.000 prisioneros judíos y políticos. Visitaremos los restos del campo de concentración con sus torres de vigilancia, cuarteles, crematorio, tren original y monumento a los niños. También visitamos el lugar de ejecución en el bosque donde fueron ejecutados más de 300 miembros de la resistencia. El campamento cuenta con una librería, un buen audio tour y una pequeña cafetería.
El puente John Frost sobre el Rin en Arnhem fue el último puente que hubo que capturar durante la Operación Market Garden. Si los aliados pudieran capturar este puente, el camino hacia Alemania quedaría abierto. El puente juega un papel importante en la película Un puente demasiado lejos.
Visitamos el Museo Aerotransportado en Villa Hartenstein. Durante la batalla de Arnhem en septiembre de 1944, que formó parte de la operación militar Market Garden, Hartenstein se convirtió en el cuartel general de la División Aerotransportada británica durante los intensos combates. El atrevido intento de atravesar las líneas alemanas y capturar la zona del Ruhr para poner fin rápidamente a la guerra no tuvo éxito. El puente de Arnhem resultó ser un puente demasiado lejano. Ahora, Hartenstein alberga historias personales de soldados británicos, polacos y alemanes, así como de civiles, contadas a través de los objetos históricos únicos del museo.
Visitaremos el cementerio de guerra de Arnhem Oosterbeek. Aquí descansan la mayoría de los 1.684 soldados caídos en el desembarco de septiembre.

A must do. I cannot recommend this tour enough. This is a small, intimate tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The tour guide takes the time to share their own personal experiences, which adds another layer to the tour which is absolutely moving.

Trip was an excellent tour. Sarah provided an excellent narrative with some personal history and cultural info. She was a great driver and was very courteous to our group. We had people with dietary needs and she was able to find us a great restaurant. She knew her history at all the stops. We loved the Airbourne Museum and we'll never forget our trip to Kamp Vught. Eva provided so much background and personal experiences passed on from members in her family to help us understand the brevity of what happened, why and the inhumane treatment of the Jews and others who tried to protect them. Heartbreaking how all this unfolded. Additionally, Eva thoroughly described the Battle of Arnhem and how it came to be and why followed by a trip to the museum and Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, where over 1700 Allied soldiers were buried. The entire experience of seeing the war site, museum and cemetary gave me a very good understanding what our allied troops were fighting against and why. This was an extremely educational day and I'm very happy I booked this tour. I needed to know. I highly recommend this tour to others who are unclear how well organized concentration and elimination camps were designed and orchestrated by the Nazis to reach their end goal in their reign of perceived superiority and how necessary it was for our Allied forces to fight them.

The Footsteps of WWII tour was a humbling experience. Our tour guide Eva was the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Eva shared the personal experiences of her father and grandparents throughout the day which helped immerse us in that time period and helped us process the sites from a different perspective. The Airborne Museum at Villa Hartenstein was very well done, we could have spent days there. The grounds and audio narrative of Camp Vught concentration camp were well done. Eva was very personable, accommodating and her English was excellent. Eva was a great story teller which helped us understand the oppression of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. This was a great tour with an amazing tour guide. We would highly recommend this tour.
