10/10 for this trip, we had a fantastic time. Myself and my wife had Ricky and Thai as our guides and moped pilots through the absolutely crazy traffic of Ho Chi Minh City at night. Both guys were brilliant and both spoke very good English. We wore open face helmets and could chat as we rode albeit over the tooting and honking of thousands of cars and mopeds coming at you from every direction. Both guys are exceptionally skilled riders and we felt very safe in their hands. I have ridden bikes in the uk for years and there is no way I could have got through that traffic in one piece, it has to be experienced to be believed. We were part of a group of 4 so it was nice and personal. We were picked up from our hotel in district one and taken by moped to meet the others in the group, there we sat on little chairs on the roadside and had some coconut water with pineapple, very refreshing and delicious, and talked about the format of the tour and a bit about each other. From there we went through different districts of the city to various roadside stalls, cafes and restaurants to try about 10 or 11 dishes. Be aware that these are not tiny portions so don’t eat before going out as we were stuffed at the end of the tour. Some dishes did look a little odd at first, like the omelette / pancake with vegetables that you tear up and wrap in a selection of different herbs and leaves like a giant cigar and dip in sauce before eating. I didn’t like the look of it but it was amazing. Just go with it and try it all you will be surprised. The kinds of places we went were traditional family run roadside establishments that the guys chose based on several factors. Quality of food, cleanliness / safety and their own experience of the places. It’s now the next day and I’m still ok so definitely no problem with the food. At each stop the guys gave us wipes to clean and disinfect our hands. The guys check how spicy you like things and get the food tailored to your tongue. As we went from place to place the guys help with a few Vietnamese phrases and also with information on where to visit etc. Having the guys show you around and take you places you would probably never had gone otherwise made all the difference. Knowing what to order and from where is a scary proposition when in a new place and using a new language but all that was taken care of. After the trip, about 3.5 to 4 hours I think, we were dropped back off at our hotel still in one piece put full to the brim. I would definitely recommend this tour and Ricky and Thai 100%.
We had 2 lovely young tour guides- Mac & Thai. Extremely informative on every place we stopped at. Food on these stops was so delicious & plentiful. Highly recommend this tour & if you’re lucky to get Mac/Thai then that’s an even bigger bonus 🥳🥳
