Shoebill tour. With Twija Africa Safaris was good. Our guide Abdul Shakar picked us up promptly at our hotel. A few mistakes were on the Viator platform, they did pick up at our Entebbe hotel (viator said out of area) and it was a private tour (viator said said group bus tour) and it was only about 4 hours total (viatour said 6hrs). So be sure to contact the operator to verify everything. Twija replied promptly and confirmed all correct details. Abdul was friendly and knowledgeable, he drove us to the boat launch. From there we took a motorboat about 40min across lake Victoria to the swamp landing, where a smaller motorized canoe was waiting for us with a driver and birding guide from the community. We saw shoebill stork, which stand motionless for hours waiting for a fish to accidentally swim in front of them. You get about 10m away. The guides are good at positioning the canoe with the sun behind you for good photos. We also saw jacana, lapwing, kingfisher, corrmoant, ducks, and egrets. This would be difficult to organize on your own, if interested, take the tour. There are at least 4 different guys to tip, so bring numerous smaller denomination cash. An excellent tour. Nothing went wrong. Highly recommended.
This was a well coordinated trip and seeing the shoebills is such a unique experience! My guide, Abdul, was very kind and excited to talk about Kampala and Uganda. He reached out to me the day before the tour and arrived at my accommodations early to pick me up. You’ll take a boat cruise across Lake Victoria to reach the swamp then switch to a smaller boat. The team was great about getting me close to the shoebill. I saw a few flying as well! Abdul was always happy to offer fun facts, and kindly invited me to celebrate Eid with his family or even bring me food if I couldn’t make it. He did follow-up on this! Overall, definitely recommend a trip to see the shoebills if you can. It is a half day activity
It was a good tour and we saw a shoebill stork and other birds in the swamp. Josh was a nice guide and we enjoyed the boat trips from Entebbe to Mabamba as well. Recommended.

Jesh was an excellent tour guide, he arrived early and gave me lots of information about Entebbe and Kampala and the history of Uganda. He identified lots of birds on our crossing over Lake Victoria. I was lucky enough to see two Shoebills! The guides were very patient. We saw so many birds, it was a real highlight and not something to miss!

The Shoebill Stork and birdwatching tour at Mabamba Swamp was an unforgettable experience. The swamp is peaceful and beautiful, with calm waters, fresh air, and a rich variety of bird species all around. Seeing the shoebill stork in its natural habitat was the highlight of the trip — it is a rare and fascinating bird, and watching it stand quietly among the papyrus reeds was amazing. The canoe ride through the swamp made the tour even more enjoyable because it allowed close views of nature and many other birds along the way. The guides were knowledgeable, patient, and very good at spotting birds, explaining their names and behavior clearly. Overall, this tour is perfect for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and anyone looking for a unique wildlife experience in Uganda. It combines adventure, relaxation, and the excitement of seeing one of Africa’s most iconic birds.

Very nice tour where Jesh picked us up at our hotel and then told us about shoebills during the 45 min boat trip to the swamp. Once in the swamp we changed to a smaller boat and happened to another guide who was an expert on the subject. He pointed out many different kinds of birds and told me about them. We even saw a shoebill and our guides made an effort to get close to it and see it well. Really nice guided tour in the beautiful swamp! Afterwards Jesh took us to crafts marketed because we told him we hadn’t made it there on our trip. Big plus for his generosity!

Thank you very much for the review
Recently, I had a trip to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. The trip was both exciting and educational because Kampala is a busy city with many cultural, historical, and social attractions. During the visit, I had the opportunity to observe the daily life of people in the city and learn more about Uganda’s urban environment.
