Very great way to explore Albania and also add 2 more neighboring countries alongside which they share a lot of history. The program felt greatly tailored so we could see new places and not waste all day driving. The guide was very informative and we learned a lot. Great tour overall.
We have completed our tour and have enjoyed immensely. Endri was a very well-informed, patient guide. The program was excellent. We were happy to have covered many varied places in a small amount of time. It deepened our understanding of Albania/NMacedonia/Kosovo culture and history. Our restaurants were well-chosen. We were happy to enjoy hot meals in beautiful places for reasonable prices. We also highly appreciated the locations of all our accommodations. They were always accessible to the city center which was a big plus when we go out for our walking tours or when we are on our own. I recommend Go as Local to any of my friends who ask about travelling to this part of the world.
Excellent tour company who catered the trip to what we wanted to see & do. Our guide, Endri was a wealth of knowledge & has passion for his country & this part of the world! Sindi taught us to cook traditional Albania dishes, vegetarian-style. The company members responded to our every question & were so very helpful before, during & even after the trip. It was an incredible journey, run by knowledgeable & helpful people!
We took a similar but longer tour of Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo with Go as Local in late May to early June 2024. We arranged a tour for the two of us (two female friends in our late 60's) with Andi from GAL. There were some hiccups in the planning portion- arranging money transfers, for example. Andi was helpful at every phase of planning though he was very busy with a growing business. We began our tour in Tirania and were able to customize our trip from the published itinerary. We had the same driver, Engjell, for the entirety of our 11 day tour. He was professional, flexible, knowledgeable and energetic. He went the extra mile to assure our tour was memorable. He arranged kayaking in Matka Canyon and biking in Lake Ohrid. He bought fruit from local farmers to share each day. He even collected my delayed luggage from a hotel many miles away after it was left there in error. Driving in each country is a 'contact sport' but we felt safe as Engjell navigated very heavy traffic and some crazy drivers. This area of the Balkans was a revelation. There is much history and diversity of landscape- Mountains, lakes, the sea, forests, ancient churches and mosques. The scenery and architecture is stunning. Andi arranged for very nice hotels and each served a hot breakfast, typically with great coffee. We especially loved our lodging in Gjirokaster, Voskopoje, and Theth. This is an area where development is coming so I'm glad we were able to see these countries at this time. Albania is a mostly cash economy- both Lek and Euros- though ATMs were usually available. We were able to use credit cards in North Macedonia and Kosovo. I hope to return to Albania to spend more time in the north of the country and beach areas- both lakes and the Albanian Riveria. I will use Go as Local again.
Everything was wonderful. Firstly the communication before booking was exceptional and left us very confident this was the right tour for us. Hotels top notch right in the heart of every city. Our guide was very knowledgeable but more importantly flexible if we wished to move things around. Finally the friendliness and hospitality of the local people who embraced us and made us welcome at every stop. And did I mention the amazing local food. Don’t think about it, do it before these countries become overrun with tourists.
I booked the 7-day private tour of Albania, N. Macedonia and Kosovo. Communication was excellent as I was putting my trip together. Andi was very prompt replying back to my questions and kept in touch prior to my departure for Tirana. On the day the tour started my driver, Engjell, was right on time picking me up from the hotel. We spent the next seven days touring the areas described in the itinerary and was not disappointed. Engjell explained the history of the places we visited and that was really important to me. I had many questions and he had many good answers. He was also a very careful driver which made me feel good. The hotels booked for me were wonderful. Most of them, not all, were small local establishments with three or four rooms. The rooms were perfect for a solo traveler and all included breakfast. My three favorite hotels were in Shkoder, Berat and Gjirokastër. The restaurants recommended by Engjell were great. I asked Go As Local if I could end my tour in Shkoder as I wanted to spend a few days there. No problem as they made changes to the tour to allow this. I took the local bus back to Tirana from Shkoder. I would highly recommend touring with Go As Local. The tour and communication were great and the staff very professional. I highly recommend.
This was a wonderful 7-day tour of various towns and cities in Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo. Our guide (also driver), Daniel, was very knowledgeable and friendly, and did a great job of tailoring the trip to our interests. We found the timings to be perfect - just enough time in each place to get a flavour; it never felt rushed. The hotels that were provided by the tour operator were excellent - always well located and often with great views. This tour exceeded our expectations - highly recommended!
We were very pleased with our 7 day tour Albania ,North Macedonia and Kosovo. All our concerns were addressed prior to our tour ,We had an excellent driver guide ,He was planning all the sightseeing .He was a competent driver, especially driving the mountains and hairpin bends. He stopped for pictures and helped with useful suggestions on shopping and dinner choices of restaurants .I would give this tour and excellent 5 star review.
The best experience around the Balkans! We jyst returned from a 7 days tour with Daniel and it was just amazing. A wanderful, private trip on the western Balkans. Everything was perfectly organized , starting from the hotels, attranlctions ane restaurant. One of the best tours we have had so far!
My husband and I took the 7-day Go as Local 7-day private tour of Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo in October, 2023. We had a marvelous and memorable trip and saw lots of impressive well-preserved ancient ruins, scenic cities and towns with cultural and historical significance, gorgeous uncrowded seaside areas, stunning rugged mountains, massive areas of deep green forest, beautiful churches and mosques and intriguing historical sites. Our tour guide Endri was fantastic! He was unfailingly courteous and considerate, provided pertinent information on all of the places we visited, was an excellent driver, and had a diverse background so there were always topics to discuss as we drove along. The car was comfortable and reliable, and the food was delicious, economical and plentiful especially the included breakfasts each morning. Be prepared for lots of uphill and downhill walking on cobblestones or gravel when visiting the many castles and ruins, most of which are situated above the towns they protected in ancient days. Fall is an excellent time of year to visit - not too hot in the daytime and cool at night. There were no safety concerns and we felt safe walking around on our own in the evenings. Andi, the owner of Go as Local, was friendly, cordial and easy to reach through WhatsApp and he responded promptly to our questions as we were planning our trip. He made sure our trip was well-organized and met our expectations. We strongly recommend this tour if you have an interest in this enjoyable and appealing off-the-beaten-path part of Europe – it’s uncrowded, affordable, attractive, welcoming to visitors and is genuinely authentic to its deep roots, long and varied history and diverse cultural influences.
