6 hours journey by...

6 hours journey by bus from Cusco, reached Hidroelectrica 2 hours of flat walk along the railway to Aguas Calientes. Check in at the hotel, spartan but functional, where I met the guide Victor who explained how the visit to the archaeological site was structured, then dinner in a restaurant affiliated with the tour operator Nixon. Early in the morning I woke up and walked along the path that leads from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes. I met them Victor who made me take the tour of Machu Picchu with detailed information, plus 'took many souvenir photos. After the tour I calmly walked back to Hidroelectrica where I had lunch included in the package. Then return by 7-hour minibus to Cusco. Nixon called several times during the two days to see how it went. This low cost tour is suitable for those who like to walk in the middle of nature, only the climb to Machu Picchu requires a minimum of tax preparation. It should be noted that the road that arrives at Hidroelectrica and 'in poor condition, not suitable for everyone....

Great value, would recommend

I very much enjoyed how free form the experience was, if you're looking for a guide to be with you the whole time this is not for you. The man helping and coordinating us was very nice and spoke impeccable English, the hotel and restaurant booked for us were also both nice. We had issues getting the circuit 2 permit from the government, but they were very communicative about the process and sorted it out well in the end. My one complaint would be that the bus is not comfortable for those over 6ft tall, but that is unfortunately normal

Macchu Picchu in 2 days

Amazing experience visiting Macchu Picchu. We decided the day before to go there, and despite the last-minute booking everything went smoothly. Nixon is quickly and easily responsive. All services were included in the package. The guide was really friendly and informative. Transportation on time. We walked from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes, then from there the next morning to Macchu Picchu, and again all the way back. It’s a long walk but really worth it. Overall great experience, and Macchu Picchu and the way to get there is just magical.

Definitely do this tour!

We did the 2-day Machu Picchu tour by car with Nixon Expeditions and couldn’t recommend them more. From start to finish, the team was incredibly attentive and well organised. Communication was clear, quick, and reassuring the whole time, which made the experience completely stress free. The restaurant stops and hotel were excellent and thoughtfully chosen, adding real comfort to the journey. Most importantly, we felt very safe and comfortable throughout the trip, which allowed us to fully enjoy the experience and the incredible scenery. If you’re looking for a reliable, professional, and caring tour company for Machu Picchu, Nixon Expeditions is a fantastic choice.

THE MOST AMAZING EXPERIANCE

I had the most amazing time in Machu Picchu, Ari meticulously planned my whole trip for me and also helped me book a train at the last minute which was definitely the more scenic route and comfortable way to travel. Couldn't be happier with my trip.

Amazing Machu Picchu

The tour was very well organised and coordinated by Nixon. He was very informative and the communication was excellent. He was very responsive to all my questions round the clock right from the day of the booking to the end of the tour. 5 out of 5 stars to Nixon for his team's exceptional hospitality and service. The pickup from Cusco was very punctual. The drive to Hidroelectrica was great with some really amazing views of the Peruvian Andes. The breakfast stop was good and the buffet lunch at Hidroelectrica was really great with some good options. The almost 3 hour walk to Aguas Calientes was not bad to be honest, wasn't as hard as I imagined it might be. It was mostly flat track with a brief section of 50 odd stairs uphill. Rest is just walking along the train tracks. There are shops and restaurants here and there enroute to refuel ourselves, it is not exactly a walk in the middle of nowhere. You spot local residents, other travelers, train staff, track workers and so forth. The occasional train that passes by is a sight to watch along with the beautiful forest backdrop with birds chirping. The hotel in Aguas Calientes was really nice, very clean with a very nice breakfast at 5 AM in the morning. The dinner in Aguas Calientes at the Sara Peruvian restaurant was really great with decent options. The streets of Aguas Calientes in the night were really nice to take a stroll with all the restaurants, lights and buzz till late night. The tributary water flowing downhill at the town centre is a sight to behold in the background of the surrounding hills / mountains. The early morning trek to Machu Picchu wasn't to be as the circuit entry time was 7 am and to reach there by trek one has to start as early as 4:30 or 5 AM in the dark - which is not a good idea. Better to take the bus for the uphill ride like I did for that early morning slot like most people do. Besides on that day it was pouring down heavily. Book the bus tickets a day in advance (online) for the early morning slots and reach the queue to board the bus at least 1 hour before your circuit entry timeslot. Be prepared for very long queues. The guide Jorge was really great, very informative and punctual. He met me on the night before to deliver the instructions for the next morning in person. Guides mostly come via bus and meet you at the entry point of the circuit. If you are doing the trek uphill then mostly they will not accompany you in the uphill trek, they will just meet you at the top. Early morning slots are somewhat tricky as the chances of clouds covering the Wayne Picchu mountain and the main viewpoint area are really high and you might end up seeing nothing in the cloud cover. If you don't have to return to Hidroelectrica by midday or if you are not in a hurry to get back to Aguas Calientes, make sure that you discuss with the tour operator and see if slots of 10 am or after are better and available for clearer skies and much better views. On my trip, unfortunately it was raining and cloudy at 7 am. We waited for a while & entered the circuit around 8 am in the rain. Everything was covered in clouds, couldn't see anything from the main viewpoint in the cloud cover. Eventually we moved on to other spots around 10 am. Around 10:45 or 11 am, the clouds started clearing a bit and the rain stopped and we got a glimpse of Wayne Picchu and surrounding mountains / valley towards the end / exit. Was able to snap few amazing pictures but didn't have the energy to go back to the main viewpoint again. I was content with what I could see after 11 am from other viewpoints. I did the downhill trek to Aguas Calientes on foot which took approximately 2 hours in the rain soaked wet & slippery path. If it rains I would recommend to just take the bus to save the hassle. Otherwise just do one way trek. If you have plenty of time then opt for two way trek. But then it all depends on your personal preference, budget, challenge mindset etc. And finally the return trip was a train from Aguas Calientes around 19:30 PM to Ollantaytambo followed by a van / bus ride from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, reached Cusco around 23:30 PM, followed by Uber ride to the hostel. For the return trip I had to upgrade from the initial option of going back to Hidroelectrica on foot to the train option. Didn't realise it was a train + bus instead until the actual journey, but it was fun & well organised nonetheless. I would suggest to check with the tour operator and see if any earlier trains would suit your itinerary better. Overall it was great experience, spectacular views, great landscapes & worth the money. I would really commend Nixon and team again for organising & coordinating this amazing tour with all the necessary tips & information, regular communication and above all their great hospitality and service. 5 out of 5 stars & very highly recommended !!

It was a very nice tour, on the way back we had booked the train additionally. Everything was very well organized, all agreements and times were kept. We really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to others.
