El Valle de los Caídos es un monumento del régimen franquista, basílica católica y un monumento monumental en el municipio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, erigido en el Valle de Cuelgamuros en la Sierra de Guadarrama, cerca de Madrid. Franco afirmó que el monumento estaba destinado a ser un "acto nacional de expiación" y reconciliación. En las obras de construcción participaron principalmente trabajadores libres y un porcentaje menor, aunque significativo, de presos, estos entre 1942 y 1950, bajo el régimen de redención de penas.
San Lorenzo de El Escorial, también conocido como El Escorial de Arriba es una localidad y municipio de la Comunidad de Madrid, España, situada al noroeste de la comarca en la vertiente sureste de la Sierra de Guadarrama, al pie del monte Abantos y Las Machotas, a 47 kilómetros de Madrid. Es cabecera del partido judicial del mismo nombre. El asentamiento recibe el nombre popular de El Escorial de Arriba, para diferenciarlo del vecino pueblo de El Escorial, también conocido como El Escorial de Abajo. Felipe II ordenó la construcción de este Monasterio en reconocimiento a la victoria de San Quintín, que tuvo lugar el día de San Lorenzo de 1557 y es del Rey, para erigir un mausoleo en memoria de sus padres y de él mismo, colocado bajo la advocación. de San Lorenzo.

Isabel was very approachable and had a fantastic, in depth knowledge of both Escorial and Valley of the Fallen. The day was very well paced, and full of detail with a very friendly tone throughout. Nico our driver was always waiting on us at the end of each stage of the Tour, everything went very smoothly. Both are a great asset for any Tourist, highly recommend.
Isabelle was very knowledgeable and Nico, our driver, was great! Nicely air conditioned bus. We never felt rushed! Would definitely recommend!
Very slow paced and not the style for me. There was no free time to explore. The monastery tour lasted hours and it could have been 1.5 hours shorter and we could have spent more time in the actual area. Then we are taken to this beautiful view in the valley of the fallen and get no opportunity to explore because our guide wants to spend time talking about where people are buried. I would of preferred transportation, a brief explanation and then let us go off on our own

Must see when in Madrid! Isobel did a beautiful job taking us through the rich history of Spain. El Escorial is simply amazing. I enjoyed learning more about the history of this beautiful site. El Valle de los Caídos, now Valle de Cuelgamuros is impressive. The history behind this monument is fascinating. A place for the fallen in the Spanish civil war. Spain has renamed it and taken steps to make sure all fallen are honored.
Isabel and Angel were awesome! These sites for my family have turned into must sees for any of our friends who are traveling to Madrid! Isabel is so knowledgeable and so kind. A fantastic tour guide! The great think about this trip is that since it is only half a day you can easily fit it into your schedule versus a full day trip. Loved it!
