Pasaremos a su hotel en San Miguel de Allende a recogerlos para iniciar nuestro recorrido con destino hacia Dolores Hidalgo, quien heredara el oficio de la alfarería y cerámica de Talavera que en nuestros días goza de gran prestigio, así como los inusuales sabores de las nieves de este lugar. Atotonilco es conocido como la Capilla Sixtina Mexicana por todo el arte pictórico contenido en el interior de este bello Santuario. Al finalizar el tour, te llevaremos de regreso a tu Hotel.

Este Pueblo Mágico es Patrimonio Histórico y cuna de la Independencia; preserva secretos, como la Catedral, testigo silencioso que guarda entre sus muros el sonido de la voz del cura Miguel Hidalgo cuando dio el grito de independencia. Mientras caminas por este encantador e interesante pueblo, de museos y monumentos que narran la historia de México, déjate cautivar por este lugar lleno de tradiciones.
Atotonilco, pequeña localidad con menos de 600 habitantes y cuyo nombre significa lugar de agua caliente, está a unos 14 kilómetros de San Miguel de Allende y a poco más de 30 kilómetros de Dolores Hidalgo, dos ciudades que tuvieron un papel preponderante en la independencia mexicana. Su proximidad a estos dos municipios, claves en la Ruta de la Independencia, le permitió a Atotonilco tener también un papel protagónico. razón por la que debes visitar Atotonilco: el Santuario Jesús Nazareno y su Casa de Ejercicios Espirituales, cuya construcción se inició en 1740 – bajo la supervisión del sacerdote Luis Felipe Neri de Alfaro.
Este templo barroco, conocido oficialmente como Santuario de Dios y de la Patria, es visitado cada año por miles de fieles cristianos, pero también por numerosos amantes del arte que desean admirar de cerca las obras pictóricas que decoran las paredes y techos de su nave principal y de las siete capillas anexas. No hay ni un solo espacio libre y por ello hay quienes se atreven a denominar este Santuario como la “capilla Sixtina” mexicana. Su aparente sencillez exterior no permite adivinar los tesoros artísticos que resguarda en su interior, obra de los artistas Miguel Antonio Martínez de Pocasangre, José María Barajas y Juan Rodríguez Juárez.

Stay open to unscheduled opportunities- Alfredo was very knowledgeable and we were able to experience e things we might not have otherwise
We really enjoyed this tour of Atotonilco and Dolores Hidalgo. If you are in the San Miguel area don’t miss the opportunity to see these interesting small towns. The Sanctuary of Jesus of Nazarene in Atotonilco is truly incredible. Victor was our guide and he is very friendly and knowledgeable. He has been a professional guide for over 20 years. We appreciated that he was flexible about when and where to have lunch. He also went out of his way to drive us to a specialty store when we needed to buy something. Like other reviewers, we noted the whole tour was five hours, not six, from pickup to drop off.
Our guide, Hector was great! Very informative. He was very attentive to our every need. We got the best ice cream in Dolores Hidalgo.
This was an excellent experience and ended up being just me and my mom on the tour. Atotonilco was a quaint little town and our guide Hector was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. Unfortunately the “Sistine Chapel” is closed on Mondays but the church is really lovely. A particular highlight was visiting a Talavera factory for a private tour of their process; we loved seeing these colorful pieces come to life at the hands of these skilled artisans! Also, we enjoyed seeing Dolores Hidalgo and learning more about the Mexican revolution. All in all, a very interesting and worthwhile tour. Thank you Hector for showing us around and sharing so much of your knowledge about Guanajuato!

Our tour guide Hector was amazing. His English was very good and he gave us interesting historical information about Dolores Hidalgo and Antotonilco. He took us to great shops and the best food of our trip. He also took us to a very interesting shop in Dolores Hidalgo to show us the pottery making process but they make the Catrina statues instead of just bowls (everyone in our group of 7 bought something). We did have a few issues with scheduling with the tour company and they sent us the wrong tour information/pick up information and we had to contact them the morning of to get it changed. We also booked a 6 hour tour but only booked our guide for 5 hours, so the company wanted to charge us for the extra hour when we wanted to go to lunch at the restaurant our guide recommended and would be over 5 hours. We did talk to them on the phone and realized their mistake and did not charge us, so I do give them credit for this, but it was not a smooth process. The trip locations and experience was well worth the headache but needs better coordination from the company.

Through no fault of our very competent driver and guide, the church in Atotonilco was changing priests and while the entire town was out for this big celebration, the church was closed, hence we missed half of the tour. Also, the road between SMA & Dolores Hidalgo is being widened so we slowly drove on bumpy roads for much of the trip.
Unfortunately, there are situations beyond our control that are not predictable, such as the cases you mention. We hope that your next experience will be more positive.
Francisco was an excellent tour guide. Very informative and kind! We just had the Best experience! He was on time to pick us up and the car ride was comfortable and he knew a lot of Mexican history. Will definitely book with him again for future travel.

This was a pleasant tour with a very nice guide. We ate lunch at the mercado, which was fun. Interesting history of the Mexican independence. Ice cream was fun on the plaza. All around a good day.

Delores Hildago was very interesting and fun. We spent time in the market, sampled some delicious food, and learned about the history of the town. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed shopping on the street of ceramics too. Atotonilco was quite special. The painted interior is stunning!
