It was amazing, we had a lot of fun and it was a great experience. It added so much joy to our Journey. Can't recommend this tour enough. Pura Vida☀️
Dylan gave us an informative and entertaining tour of the past, present and future of Costa Rican chocolate, coffee and sugar cane industry. And the tastings were varied and flavorful. Great fun.
Excellent trip, not only the transfer but also the guide and stops in viewpoints and strategic centers of monteverde, Andrés a genius!
Enrique was our tour guide and he did a great job of making the tour memorable and interactive. We had a lot of fun driving to Monte Verde for the tour but beware of the roads. They are very narrow and winding. Allow plenty of travel time if you are not staying locally.
We took the 8:00 am tour on December 22nd with Kathy, and being the only family in the group made the experience feel very personalized. The tour was exceptional not just for the tastings, but for the depth of knowledge we gained. Kathy guided us through the fascinating processes behind cocoa, sugar cane, and coffee production, explaining their cultural and historical significance in Costa Rica. We learned how cocoa is harvested and transformed into chocolate, how sugar cane is pressed to produce its sweet juice, and how coffee beans are cultivated, roasted, and brewed. Along the way, we were able to sample each product—rich chocolates, freshly squeezed sugar cane juice, and several varieties of coffee—which brought the lessons to life in a very tangible way. The pacing of the tour was excellent, allowing us to absorb information without feeling rushed, while still keeping the experience engaging. It was clear that Kathy was passionate about sharing these traditions, and her explanations made us appreciate the effort behind every bite and sip. The tour concluded at the gift shop, where we purchased some outstanding chocolates to take home, a perfect reminder of what we had learned and enjoyed. Overall, this was more than just a tasting—it was an educational journey into the roots of Costa Rican agriculture and culture, delivered with care and precision.
There are a lot of coffee tours or cocoa/coffee tours, but we're glad we were able to see the sugar cane aspect of agriculture as well. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke English well. The Don Juan campus has a variety of other fruits growing in addition to coffee/cocoa/sugar cane, so you'll see other ag products as you walk from station to station.
The Don Juan Coffee Tour in Monteverde was one of the highlights of our trip! It was educational, engaging, and fun for the whole family. Our guide, José, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane production process. He made the tour come alive with great storytelling and hands-on demonstrations that kept everyone interested. We came away with a deeper appreciation for how much care goes into each step, from bean to cup. The tastings at the end were delicious and a great way to wrap up the experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Monteverde!
Our guide Rolo was awesome … it was super interesting and the tasting elements were good too. We learned a ton today, and even teenagers enjoyed it

This tour was fantastic. It was interesting and informative and interactive. Helping in the production process and then sampling the end product was so fun. A must-do in Monteverde!
