La fortaleza de Hwaseong es una estructura impresionante de la última parte de la dinastía Joseon (1392-1910). La fortaleza fue construida como muestra de la piedad filial del rey Jeongjo hacia su padre.
Un Hwaseong Haenggung era un palacio temporal donde el rey y la familia real se retiraban durante una guerra. El Palacio Hwaseong Haenggung es el más grande de estos, utilizado por los reyes Joseon desde la época del Rey Jeongjo.
