We took this tour on a Sat at 6pm in mid September. The timing was perfect due to lower humidity. We had a small group of 4 which was ideal so that we could ask questions, take our time, enjoy the sites, etc. Our guide, Anita Tavric was EXCEPTIONAL! She was extremely personable, witty, engaging, knowledgeable and knew her stuff. Hands down, one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had in many years of world travel! If, when you find yourself in Split, Croatia, this tour with Anita is a must. You’ll be so glad you did! Mark Hyde, Miami, FL

Being unsure of what we would do in Croatia - we found - the perfect tour with Viator. From the very beginning —the tour and tour guide was excellent - easy to find, and very informative. Our guide Anitia was fantastic! Knowledgeable - kind and funny! The tour aligned perfectly with our itinerary and old town split is beautiful with ancient Roman, Catholic and Veniician influences. We would highly recommend this tour and Anita!

Great insights into the history and current culture of Trogir and Croatia. Made the most of our time by bringing us straight to city highlights and pointed us to ones we should spend more time exploring.

SPLIT CROACIA It was once a long, long time ago that there was a powerful Roman emperor, called Dioclesian. Although he had the greatest empire of all time in his hands, he decided to abdicate his throne, so long before his resignation, he had a large palace built with marble floors, sculptures brought from Egypt, sturdy columns and tall stone to stop the roofs and structure of the palace. So hundreds or probably thousands of slaves were used to build and finish the Palace where the "Former Dioclesian Emperor" would retire to spend his last years of life. Another many years passed and.......What happened to the palace? because between war and war, climate, looting and neglect the main structure collapsed, leaving some walls, marble floors and spaces that the former inhabitants of the place occupied to build their homes, Churches and businesses. Creating an ancient city within a Roman palace, giving Split a unique and spectacular touch that is appreciated by each of the tourists who knows this place. Besides having a lot of restaurants and bars, ice cream parlors (literally almost one on each corner), gift shops, bakeries, etc. There is no shortage of cruise ships and yachts that, anchored on the pier, await their thousands of passengers who enjoy this small town every day.
We had the wonderful Gabrijela as a guide. No one else had booked on the tour, so it ended up being just the 3 of us, which was a pleasant surprise. Gabrijela was a local, with great English and wonderful knowledge. We learned so much from her about history, local culture, food recommendations and more. It's the best walking tour we've been on before!
A wonderful hour and a half walking tour of the Old Town with our delightful guide Petra! Early evening is a great time to walk through the beautiful and historic winding streets of Split. There were just three of us on our tour, and the experience was very informative, enjoyable, and just long enough. Would highly recommend!
If you happen to be interested in a walking tour of Split that has a strong focus on history, then book with Portal Day Tours and request Petra as your guide! She has a real passion for history and presents the information in an interesting and engaging way, infusing her own sense of humor as well. It was a small group, and Petra answered all our questions very knowledgeably. You cannot go wrong having her as your guide to explain and point out how the old town of Split is a living UNESCO site!
An excellent retired school teacher who clearly loves his work. He's got an amazing place to work with.
Our walking tour was really a fantastic experience! We were paired with Petra, who was wonderfully knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for educating others about the history and culture of Split. We have done many walking tours during our travels, and Petra was the best guide we've had. Although Split is smaller than many other places, there is quite a bit of interesting history that was neat to learn about. Highly recommend booking a spot with her!
