Sin tener que viajar muy lejos, a través de esta visita guiada de un día desde Taipei, puede descubrir el encanto único de los distritos rurales a lo largo de la costa norte y noreste de Taiwán. Ubicado en el distrito de Wanli, en la ciudad de Nueva Taipéi, como una de las principales atracciones de la costa norte de Taiwán, el geoparque Yehliu alberga una serie de formaciones rocosas únicas causadas por el viento y el mar, como las rocas setas, la roca de tablero de ajedrez, los fósiles traza y todo eso.
La formación rocosa más famosa es la icónica “Queen’s Head”, una roca seta que se asemeja al perfil de la reina Isabel de Inglaterra. Cada año, el “Yehliu Night Tour” presenta espectáculos de luces, proyección de agua, etc., atrayendo a más de diez mil visitantes para ver la Cabeza de la Reina iluminada por la noche. Además de la Cabeza de la Reina, vale la pena echar un vistazo a otras formaciones notables como las Velas del Mar, el Zapato de Hadas, las Rocas de Jengibre, la Roca del Elefante, la Roca del Helado, la Roca del Beso y la Cabeza de la Princesa.
Jiufen es un pueblo en la ladera de una colina en el distrito de Ruifang, en la ciudad de Nuevo Taipei. El pueblo floreció en la década de 1940 debido a la industria de la minería del oro, y luego cayó en mal estado y decrepitud durante años. Aunque la edad de oro ya pasó, este pequeño pueblo todavía tiene muchas historias que contar. Allí se rodó la premiada película “Una ciudad de tristeza”, dirigida por el famoso director de cine Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Situada en el distrito de Pingxi, en la ciudad de Nueva Taipéi, la cascada Shifen es una de las atracciones más populares de esta zona, ampliamente conocida como las "Pequeñas Cataratas del Niágara" de Taiwán, una cascada de tipo cascada similar a las Cataratas del Niágara de América del Norte.
Hay varias plataformas de observación cerca de la cascada Shifen, donde los visitantes pueden ver la cascada desde diferentes ángulos, incluso tener una mirada cercana. En los días soleados, si tienes suerte, puedes capturar un hermoso arco iris creado por la niebla de esta cascada de 20 metros de altura mientras salpica el lago.
La estación Shifen está ubicada río abajo Keelung desde el área de la cascada, construida originalmente para transportar carbón durante la colonización japonesa. Jenny, our tour guide, was very organized, informative and energetic. The tour didn’t end until close to 5pm so it was a long day but it was very interesting and lot to see. Make sure to have local currency for the shops and food as the smaller vendors do not accept credit cards. Overall a great experience!

Overall a good experience, the sites themselves were good and nice to get out of the city. The guide was a bit hit and miss - nice person and informative but quite repetitive, and fell asleep three times in transit. Guide only has one job, entertain the guests for the duration of the trip, so falling asleep was a bit disappointing. Bus was comfortable, duration itself (while day) was fine. Plenty of opportunities to find food and refreshments at each stop.

This day tour delivered what it claims. I booked a small group package tour via TripAdvisor. The tour agent provided a WhatsApp number and reply my query about pickup point immediately. Our tour guide Kevin was quite chatty and explained all the background of the places of interests. He offered to take photos at every locations. The cost of tour was reasonable, slightly lower cost would have been better. Admission fee for Yehliu Geopark and Chinese lantern flying (shared) was included but these are small cost. I will recommend this package tour for Taipei visitors.
