Amazing first day in Japan, visiting all the viewing and cultural hotspots around Mount Fuji. Unfortunately it was cloudy and we couldn't see Mt Fuji, but the gardens around Lake Kawaguchi were beautiful. We really enjoyed the Chureito Pagoda and shrines in the forest. We stopped off at Oshino Hakkai to see the stunning crystal clear waters and water wheels. It had lovely old buildings and street food style markets. We had a really great time and really valued having a private tour take us between all these places

We're sorry the clouds kept Mount Fuji hidden that day, but we're so glad the gardens at Lake Kawaguchi, the Chureito Pagoda, and the crystal-clear waters of Oshino Hakkai made for such a memorable first day in Japan. We travelled with our tour guide Sofia to Nikko. Unfortunately it was rainy which brought down the experience. The length of the trip was probably ideal, 10 hours. The stops except Toshogu shrine and lunch were hasty, but that is what the schedule allowed given that 5 hours were spent on transportation back and forth. Sofia is very friendly and helpful, and she managed to make the whole tour group get to know each other. Maybe I would have appreciated more narration about history and sights from the tour.

Tomoko was very lovely and kind, but not very informative. We were hoping to learn more about Fuji and the places that we visited. We were also disappointed that Mount Fuji stayed hidden in the clouds, but I know that there is no way to control for that…
