Durante más de 20 años, los guardianes aquí entrenaron a jóvenes orangutanes, que habían quedado huérfanos o rescatados del cautiverio, sobre cómo sobrevivir en la naturaleza. El éxito de este programa ha dejado a la reserva forestal circundante con una población próspera de orangutanes sanos adolescentes y adultos jóvenes, que ahora se reproducen en la naturaleza. El programa ha sido transferido al Matang Wildlife Center, pero Semenggoh todavía alberga a sus graduados exitosos, orangutanes semi-salvajes y sus bebés. Pasan la mayor parte de su tiempo deambulando por el bosque, pero con frecuencia regresan al Centro para una comida gratis. Si es la temporada de fructificación en el bosque, algunos o incluso todos ellos no pueden alimentarse. Esto en sí mismo es una buena señal y un paso más en el camino hacia la rehabilitación completa. El Centro de Vida Silvestre Semenggoh es el hogar de orangutanes semi-salvajes donde están entrenados para valerse por sí mismos en su entorno natural. Es posible que algunos o incluso todos los orangutanes no vengan al centro a alimentarse (0900 horas / 1500 horas), especialmente si es la temporada de fructificación en el bosque. El recorrido comienza y continúa durante 20 minutos en automóvil hasta el Centro de Vida Silvestre Semenggoh. El Centro es el mayor centro de rehabilitación de Orang Utan en Sarawak que se estableció en 1975 como un santuario para los heridos y huérfanos Orang Utans. Estos animales son entrenados o reentrenados para sobrevivir en su hábitat natural. Aprenden a buscar alimento natural y construir nidos en los árboles. Sin embargo, hay pocos que nunca volverán a aprender sus habilidades salvajes debido a su larga asociación y dependencia resultante de los humanos. Dé un paseo por los senderos e intente ver a los orangután semi-salvajes. Hay horarios de alimentación programados todos los días en la plataforma de alimentación. Recogida y regreso gratis desde su hotel ubicado en el centro de la ciudad de Kuching (radio de 1 km). Se aplica un recargo adicional de USD 40 por la recogida en el hotel fuera del radio de 1 km del centro de la ciudad y se paga el día de su actividad.

Lucky to have great weather and to see semi-wild orangutans in their natural habitat. Arriving early is definitely worthwhile, as the orangutans can appear before the scheduled feeding (usually 3pm) and sightings are never guaranteed. i was fortunate to see a few, including a baby. Took the free 103 bus (there was a stop behind the hotel i stayed in, The LimeTree - download KuchingMetro app for the bus live location), got on at about 1230pm, long bus ride about 1.5 hours with many stops but a great way to see the city and suburbs.

Sensational, we opted to take the morning tour and we were not disappointed.. we arrived. Ticketing was easy. We caught the electric buggy down to the bottom of the hill and right then and there a massive orangutan sliding down a tree into his natural environment. It was surreal. It was amazing! It was astonishing... We saw 3 separate orangutang popping in... Absolutely breathtaking.. From what we understood there isn't any guarantee to see the orangutang. The property sits in 650 acres and the orangutang roam freely, the rangers lay out fruit on the ground and that is that.. Today was brilliant

This was definitely the highlight of our stay in Sarawak. There was a lot of waiting around but when you can see orangutans, who really cares? Very well organised although it didn't feel that Semenggoh was open long enough to experience all the walks there, which was a bit weird. Very, very glad we took the tram because the walk to the feeding platform is a long one - especially in the heat. Our driver/guide from Klook was very knowledgeable and pointed out orangutan nests and when branches were moving showing activity. He knew the history as well and explained how the alpha male became the alpha male. He also explained the dynamics of the troop well. We were delighted that a mum and baby showed up. They kept the park open a bit longer so we could see them properly. It was amazing. Then a very steep upward climb to the cafe/giftshop and the tram back to the carpark!

A truly unforgettable experience. I went as part of a World Challenge tour group to Semenggoh in July 2025 and had an amazing time. We saw 8 different Orang Utans feeding. The guide was funny and informative and it was clear that everyone working there took great pride and pleasure in their job. We were lucky though as our guide did highlight that you don’t always see as many, especially in fruiting season when there is less need for the orange utans to come to the feeding stations. Location wise, I can’t really comment because we went on a coach tour but it was only about a 30 minute journey from the centre of Kuching.

Fabulous experience and excellent facility very lucky to to 5 Orangutangs. Best thing i have ever done would full recommend you go. We went during the fruiting season and was advised we might not see any. We waited quietly and it was not long before. The first appeared and then they just kept coming. We even managed to see a very large Orangutang and a shy 3 week baby in the tree. We caught the buggy to the feeding station and return
