At this time of year, water temperatures are water temperatures are higher than average, approximately 28°C at the surface and 26–27°C at depth. In these conditions, most divers choose to wear stinger suits for comfort, reduced buoyancy, and protection from marine stingers. On this occasion, a crew member offered their personal wetsuit to you to ensure additional comfort for you during the dives. Dive briefings were conducted in smaller groups to enhance clarity while the vessel travelled at a reduced speed. This approach is standard practice on the longer journey to the SS Yongala, allowing all divers to receive comprehensive information without delaying arrival at the site. The briefings included dive site navigation, marine life, and all relevant safety procedures. The SS Yongala is known for its strong currents, which contribute to its unique diving conditions. The crew performed current checks while setting up the descent and mermaid lines and advised all divers—particularly those diving unguided—to remain on these lines at all times. These safety lines extend from the vessel to the top of the wreck to support controlled descents and ascents. The expected current conditions were also reiterated during final gear-up to ensure all divers were aware of the environment. We understand that your experience did not meet your expectations and will take your comments into account as we continue to review and improve our operations. Wetsuits will be made available again for this dive site in the future to ensure guest comfort across varying preferences. We appreciate your acknowledgement of the crew’s friendliness.
