La preparación tradicional del café turco implica un proceso meticuloso que comienza con la selección y molienda de los granos de café de alta calidad para asegurar la finura perfecta. Sin embargo, lo que hace que la experiencia sea verdaderamente excepcional es el método de preparar el café sobre arena. En Capadocia, ollas de cobre calentadas con arena especialmente diseñadas, conocidas como "cezve", se llenan con agua, café y azúcar y se colocan sobre arena caliente. Este método permite una distribución suave y controlada del calor, realzando los sabores y aromas del café. Con la olla colocada en la arena tibia, alcanza gradualmente la temperatura deseada, lo que da como resultado una bebida rica y sabrosa.
