Fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, uno de los sitios esenciales en Tulum son sus ruinas mayas, ubicadas en un acantilado frente al Mar Caribe; Con cálidas noches estrelladas y aguas cristalinas de color turquesa, es la única zona arqueológica que se encuentra a la orilla del mar. Es el sitio más fotogénico de la región y, quizás, de todo el país.

Originalmente fue una gran plantación de coco propiedad de Don Argimiro Argüelles hasta 1958 cuando fue descubierta por el CEDAM (Club de Exploración y Deportes Acuáticos de México), un exclusivo club de buceo. Akumal fue el anfitrión de este grupo cuyo interés era la búsqueda de tesoros submarinos.

What a wonderfull day we had, guides by the best guide ever (Dania!). Swimming with turtles and visiting the Cenote where the absolute highlight. A full day of fun. Highly recommended!

The good: The tour company was in frequent communication about when and where to meet the guide; guide was upbeat and knowledgeable; local guide at Tulum was enjoyable. The frustrating: With about 12 people in our snorkel group, it was difficult to stay close enough to the guide to be able to see turtles. The excursion also included a professional photographer, who was helpful and friendly... but then we had to sit through the obligatory "please buy our photo dvd" presentation.
