When you first walk into the castle, it is kinda a hike to get to the top and looks a little underwhelming. HOWEVER, once to the starting floors, there are some of the most gorgeous rooms and insane views. There are so many pathways that connect and keep transporting to new and interesting things. There is even a cafe you can get a snack and drink at. At top, there is a gorgeous view that allows you to see so much of the city and is 100% worth it. I will note however, it is not very handicap accessible. There is elevator down but not on the way up and my grandmother struggled a bit.
Alexandria, Castel Sant’Angelo really does reveal itself layer by layer, from the climb and winding passages to the decorated rooms, café stop, and those panoramic views over Rome at the top. We’re glad the experience ultimately felt 100% worth it for you. This was not a “guided” tour, other than the somewhat limited audio guide they provided. And l, skipping the line, at least for us, was irrelevant. It actually took more time to meet up with them, get vouchers, and then enter than it would have been just to walk up and go.

This was a very cool place to visit. The views from the top were amazing! I highly recommend this. We received a downloadable audio guide from the tour company, and it was informative. We ended up mostly just wandering around but it was worth it to read/listen to. We spent about an hour there. There is limited air conditioning so in many places, it’s pretty warm! Some rooms were cooler than others.
