Kumbharwada es un pueblo alfarero en Dharavi formado por comunidades de inmigrantes de Gujarat a fines del siglo XIX. Estas familias inmigrantes trajeron a Mumbai sus antiguas tradiciones y habilidades e hicieron de la cerámica una de las artesanías locales más famosas de Dharavi. An unforgettable way to experience the real Dharavi A truly eye-opening and unforgettable experience. This tour goes far beyond what you see in documentaries or on YouTube. Dharavi is full of hardworking people, small family businesses, and an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and answered every question with honesty and respect. At no point did the tour feel exploitative—it was informative, well-organized, and focused on understanding the local community and its history. I left with a completely different perspective and a lot of respect for the people who live and work here. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Mumbai who wants to see a side of the city that most tourists never experience.

Fantastic tour and experience
Absolutely outstanding excursion! I went in thinking I would see the accommodations of the residents. I left with a thorough understanding of the “city within a city” of Dhiravi. Bharti was excellent from start to finish. She was thorough in her explanations of the businesses that make the community thrive AND she spoke from the heart in regard to the social aspect of the community. I was touched by her authenticity and pride. She even opened up her home to me as I met several of her friends and relatives. I can’t say enough positive things about my experience. Visitors would be remiss not to do this tour. Oh and hope you get assigned to Bharti!

We met Rahul through the Bollywood tour as he was our guide and he told us he offers tours of Dharavi as he is from there. We came on the tour and it was very interesting. He showed us the commercial areas and residential. We got to see the different businesses like pottery, leather, plastic. We then got to come to his family home where we could meet his family and see the NGO school that he had created to help give local children extra education for free. And he used the tour company money to fund this. It was amazing to meet the children and teachers and we luckily came in time to get some Henna from the henna teacher! We were apprehensive to come on the tour at first but it was great to be with Rahul as he was local to here and we could see the good he is doing with tour money.

What made the experience so special was that she actually lives in the slum herself, which gave the entire tour a level of authenticity and personal insight you simply wouldn’t get otherwise. We had a wonderful afternoon with Rahul “Roy” as our guide. Roy was raised and still lives in Dharavi and has an intimate knowledge of the history, people, and industries that are there. We saw the 4 major economic drivers- plastics, cardboard, leather, and pottery. We saw the lives of people at work and at play.
