Lovely province Jumps, beautiful scenery and very warm its people. I'd definitely come back. It would improve some excursions, for example Train to the clouds, exhausting, many hours of travel going from the city of Salta. I found Iruya beautiful, exhausting but really worth it, it is a magical town.
We traveled through the province of Salta by car. Extraordinary landscapes that a photo or video cannot reproduce. Some gravel routes could be in better condition but despite this the routes are extremely enjoyable.
From Humahuaca to Iruya it is about 70 km, 50 km of ripio and it costs by zig zag but it is worth it. Iruya is a magical village, supported by the mountain. Several restaurants and hotels to stay overnight, full of European tourists. In Humahuaca you have to visit the wonderful Hornocal Hill, the 14-color hill. It is a dazzling landscape, especially when it is lit by the sun.
¡Hola Mirta!
We drove from Tilcara. We left at 10 a.m. from Tilcara and arrived in Iruya at 1.30 p.m. The road is beautiful but : the ripio of the Jujeño section is less maintained than the Salteño section. You can drive without problem. The calculation is 1 hour of asphalt and 2 hours of ripio since it is 56 kmts of ripio . The road is worth it and the village is adorable. We walked 2 hours through Iruya and at 4 pm we started the return taking mate. The lap is a little faster because it is on the descent. At 7pm we were in Tilcara back. You can come and go in the day.
