Antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial no había Estación Central, pero había cuatro estaciones alrededor del centro. En 1957 se inauguró la estación central en su ubicación actual. En 2004 se inició una renovación total de la estación central, en 2014 se entregó el resultado final actual. La antigua estación ya no podía hacer frente a la afluencia de pasajeros.
En 2011, el municipio de Rotterdam organizó la primera iniciativa de la ciudad, un instrumento administrativo para estimular la innovación administrativa y la participación ciudadana. Se pidió a los habitantes de Róterdam que presentaran proyectos que dinamizaran la ciudad y mejoraran la calidad de vida de la ciudad. Se ha destinado una cantidad de 4 millones de la iniciativa municipal para la ejecución del proyecto.
En la Edad Media, una de las 10 puertas de la ciudad que tenía aquí Róterdam. En los años 30, la ciudad de Róterdam creció rápidamente y la puerta se interpuso en el camino, ya que querían un mejor flujo para el creciente tráfico. Se decidió mover la puerta unos 100 metros (la demolición de la puerta encontró mucha resistencia). Durante el bombardeo en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la puerta sufrió graves daños, un año después del bombardeo la puerta fue demolida, porque ya no se podía terminar. Algunas obras ornamentales de la antigua puerta se salvaron y se incorporaron a los muros de los edificios de la esquina de la plaza del ayuntamiento.
El ayuntamiento fue construido entre 1914 y 1920 (por Henri Evers) y es uno de los pocos edificios del centro de Róterdam que sobrevivió al bombardeo del 14 de mayo de 1940.
Actualmente, el encuentro es uno de los lugares de moda en Róterdam. Hay muchos cafés, restaurantes y tiendas de ropa. La laurenskerk es el único vestigio del centro medieval de Róterdam. La laurenskerk es un cruce entre una iglesia de salón (todos los edificios tienen la misma altura) y una basílica cruciforme (aquí las torres laterales son más bajas que la torre principal). La iglesia fue construida entre 1449 y 1525.

En los años 70 del siglo XX, los arquitectos querían crear áreas residenciales hospitalarias con la participación de los residentes y otros usuarios en respuesta al modernismo a gran escala y gris de la arquitectura de la reconstrucción después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Piet Blom, estructuralista y adepto de Aldo van Eyck, asumió que los edificios a gran escala debían construirse al tamaño de las personas construyéndolos a partir de elementos reconocibles a pequeña escala. La idea básica, que el edificio está construido sobre columnas, para que el espacio debajo de los edificios pueda seguir siendo público, está inspirada en Le Corbusier.

This was a wonderful tour. As we had already visited Rotterdam on another vacation, we wanted to see and hear about some different and unusual sights. Our guide surely made that happen. He told us many interesting stories and we were very pleased with this tour! P.S. He did take a picture of us and promised to text it to us but I have not received it yet. We were supposed to take this tour (and had paid), but 15 minutes before the tour, they called and wanted to delay it by 30 minutes due to a summer festival (we booked this months ago and the summer festival was something planned for months that they knew was occurring). Since it was afternoon, we could not delay, as we were on a cruise ship. We were willing to go late, but they said they could not guarantee we would be back by the time we needed to return to the ship. I asked if they could refund the money; they stated that we would have to check with customer service. They asked what we wanted to do; we said we would have to cancel if they could not guarantee we would be back on time. Now, they are saying we lied, that they did offer the original time (they did not - my husband heard the conversation), and the person I was talking with refuses to refund our money (over $150 - there was no other "customer service" person). I would not trust booking with them again, which is too bad since we will be back again in a few months.

However, we do need to correct several statements in your review which are not true.. The proposed 2:30 PM start was presented as an option, not as the only available pickup time. Once you explained that you needed to return to your cruise ship by approximately 3:00–3:15 PM, we immediately offered to keep the original 2:00 PM meeting time and shorten the tour so you could return within your preferred timeframe. We also explained that, as a responsible operator, we could never guarantee an exact return time due to circumstances outside anyone's control, such as traffic or unexpected congestion. After discussing the option together, you decided to cancel the tour. At no point did we refuse to operate it. Regarding the festival, this was precisely why we contacted you before the tour; to communicate the situation and work with you on the best solution. Our goal was to make the tour possible despite the circumstances. We're disappointed that our recollection of the conversation differs so significantly, but we stand by the facts and the efforts we made to accommodate your schedule.
