Únase a un recorrido confrontativo pero esencial en Phnom Penh a los campos de exterminio de Choeung Ek y al Museo del Genocidio Tuol Sleng. Este recorrido lo ayudará a reflexionar sobre el impacto devastador del régimen de los Jemeres Rojos en la Camboya moderna. ChoengEk, un antiguo cementerio chino, se convirtió en un campo de exterminio para prisioneros políticos. Los restos de 8985 personas fueron exhumados de fosas comunes y se conservan aquí en una estupa conmemorativa. Nuestro guía turístico profesional y nuestro conductor lo recogerán en el lobby de su hotel y lo trasladarán para visitar Tuol Sleng S21, donde era la principal prisión política y donde se enviaba a los presuntos enemigos de Angkar. A medida que la paranoia de Pol Pot y los altos comandantes crecía, también aumentaba el número de camboyanos detenidos aquí. Una vez dentro, los prisioneros eran torturados hasta la muerte o enviados a la cercana Choeung Ek para su reeducación, es decir, ejecución. Se estima que 12.273 personas fueron detenidas en el S-21, y sólo se conocen siete supervivientes.
Luego, salimos de la ciudad hacia los campos de exterminio de Choeng Ek. Entre 1975 y 1978, unas 20.000 personas detenidas en la S-21 fueron llevadas a los campos de exterminio de Choeung Ek. Al igual que los nazis, los líderes de los Jemeres Rojos fueron meticulosos a la hora de llevar registros de su barbarie. Cada prisionero que pasó por la S-21 fue fotografiado, a veces antes y después de la tortura. Las exhibiciones del museo incluyen sala tras sala de desgarradoras fotografías en blanco y negro; Prácticamente todos los hombres, mujeres y niños que aparecen en la foto fueron asesinados posteriormente. Our guide was Ms. Sreyneang. She spoke impeccable English and was knowledgeable about many topics in addition to her deep knowledge of the 1975-1979 genocide. Really enjoyed the tour with her. Went in the afternoon so while traffic back to the city from the Killing Fields was bad, we had fewer crowds at the sites.

Toul Sleng and Killing Field are emotional places created during Khmer Rough. Thank Chansip for telling us a lot about history of Cambodia. We had gone to visit Siem Reap and got much the glory of Angkorian Period but we did not expect Cambodia changed history from the glory to the dark age led by Khmer Rough. We hope this brutality and massacre will not happen to this country again.
