We had a lovely time on our tour with John. The vineyards we went to were beautiful and it was nice to not have to worry about driving or making any reservations. John was a great conversationalist and we enjoyed talking to him on a range of topics from wine to rugby. I highly recommend if you're in Cape Town and looking to do a day trip.

This was truly a highlight on our African vacation. We had no idea what to expect, but John with Wine Escapes knocked it out of the park! He picked my husband and me up and was early and waiting for us. On the drive to the winery, he told us about the area we would be visiting as well as the neighborhoods we were driving through. John is extremely knowledgeable about South Africa. It is clear he is proud of his country. He took us by the place where Nelson Mandela walked out of prison. Our tour was as much a history tour as it was a wine tour and we loved it! John also enjoys wine and knows as much as any sommelier! He was very careful to notice the things that my husband and I liked and didn’t like. He then helped us make decisions about what we would taste. He loves rugby and that was a point of fun conversation! The unique thing about John is he has this amazing ability to be present but not intrusive. My husband and I truly felt like we were on our own private wine tour. He was always there with a suggestion or insight, but never intrusive. John is a natural conversationalist, but also very intuitive. He reads a room well and picks up on small things. Somehow, during the first tour, my husband mentioned that he enjoyed old cars. Well, guess what, the next tour we booked we went to a vineyard that had the largest collection of antique cars I have ever seen! I would definitely not miss that if I were going back to Cape Town. It was truly incredible to see that many old cars. We really enjoyed some of the smaller less commercialized vineyards that John recommended. He is absolutely the best guide because he asks what you would like to see, what sort of flavors you like and then he caters to that. The wines we tried were delicious and the views were breathtaking. I simply can’t say enough about John and his expertise. I can’t recommend this tour enough. You will absolutely not regret it!

We spent a day in the Cape Winelands with John, and he made the whole trip. Our group of 12 visited three wine farms, and John arranged everything from soup to nuts: timing, transport, tastings, meals, and all the small details we never had to think about. He knows South African wine inside and out, but he wears it lightly. He read our group well, kept the day moving without ever making it feel rushed, and was just as good talking in depth with the serious wine people as he was enjoying the day with the rest of us. Professional, warm, and completely reliable. We have already recommended him to friends and colleagues visiting next month, and we will absolutely use him again. If you are planning a wine tour in the Cape, book John.

Our tour with John was spectacular. From the moment of pick up at our accommodation, John took care of everything and kept us laughing. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us learn a lot about Stellenbosch. The wineries were accommodating and served impressive wines. I recommend this tour.

Had a wonderful day touring 3 different wineries in the beautiful Stellenbosch region with my wife and a couple of friends. Crystal picked us up at our hotel and was a knowledgeable and fun guide throughout the day. The wineries selected were medium-sized and each put forward a nice selection of their typical wines. L'Avenir added a well-matched pairing of cheeses with each wine -- exquisite! If I ever get back to Stellenbosch (which I hope I can), I would absolutely repeat this event and hopefully get Crystal as the tour guide.

We had a fabulous day with John. He was friendly and so knowledgeable about wine and all of the beautiful wineries that we visited. It felt like we were hanging out with a friend who was also a wine expert. We visited 3 wineries and had a delicious lunch in between. It was a fabulous day in the South African wine country!

This wine tour was first class from start to finish. Our driver/guide Crystal was able to show us some of the best tasting rooms in Stellenbosch. we tasted wine at three wineries and enjoyed a delicious lunch at a fourth. This is a great way to experience a very special wine growing region.

This was a wonderful day. Martin was an expert on wine and a great guide, answering all our questions and doing so with grace and interest. As a little extra, he did his best to communicate with us in the many languages our group spoke. Thank you Martin for a great day out!
