Este recorrido a pie por Timisoara comienza con el barrio del centro de Cetate para ver la imagen esencial de Timisoara: muchos edificios antiguos en estilo Art Nouveau o barroco, grandes plazas peatonales tocadas por la historia europea, así como el carácter multicultural de la ciudad y la región del Banato.
Comenzaremos nuestro turismo aquí. La catedral fue construida a finales de la década de 1930 en el estilo ecléctico neo-moldavo, que combina elementos bizantinos, góticos, otomanos y renacentistas. En el interior, observe los fragmentos del altar del siglo XVIII, ejecutados en estilo barroco. El sótano alberga colecciones de objetos religiosos, incluidos libros raros, iconos y pinturas. Busque marcas de balas en los escalones frente a la catedral, que son parte de la historia de la revolución popular que comenzó en Timisoara.
Continuaremos nuestro recorrido con una visita a la Plaza de la Victoria, también conocida como Plaza de la Ópera. Diseñada en 1906, la plaza cuenta con varios teatros, un museo, un monumento al rey Fernando y un monumento a las víctimas de la revolución de 1989. También encontrarás un antiguo pozo artesiano y la escultura de una loba capitolina, regalo de la ciudad de Roma. La siguiente es Liberty Square, que alberga el Ayuntamiento Viejo con la inscripción turca y muestra la mezcla de culturas, religiones y civilizaciones. Está rodeado de importantes edificios, uno de los cuales es el más antiguo de la ciudad, el Museo Militar del Casino, así como el antiguo ayuntamiento y la Cancillería. El Monumento Sf Ioan Nepomuk (el Patrón Católico en Banat) está en el medio. Fue construido con piedra arenisca en 1756 por el escultor vienés Wasserburger Blim en honor a los fallecidos durante la epidemia de peste de 1738.
Union Square es la plaza más antigua de Timisoara, y su arquitectura dominante se diferencia de la mucho más joven Victory Square. Está flanqueado por imponentes edificios de los siglos XVIII y XIX de la Catedral Católica Romana de San Jorge y la Catedral Ortodoxa Serbia con la Residencia del Obispo. Parece que estas dos iglesias cristianas “no tan unidas” (aquí enfrentadas en paz) dieron el nombre simbólico a la plaza: Unión. Hasta 1919, la plaza se conocía como "Mercado Lasonczy", en honor al comandante del siglo XVI Stefan (Istvan) Lasonchy, quien valientemente defendió la ciudad de los turcos.
La Catedral Ortodoxa Serbia (construida entre 1745 y 1748) representa el estilo barroco. La estructura de la iglesia contrasta bellamente con la fachada de la Residencia del Obispo (Vicariato) que se encuentra junto a ella. Ambas estructuras dan testimonio de la fuerte presencia serbia en Banat (de hecho, en el pasado, Timisoara estuvo poco tiempo bajo el control del Reino de Serbia, pero aún hoy, todavía se encuentra muy cerca de la frontera con Serbia).
El arquitecto vienés Emanuel Fisher von Erlach diseñó la imponente Catedral Católica Romana de manera similar: representa el estilo barroco. Las obras de construcción comenzaron en 1736 y duraron 18 años. Después de la muerte de Fisher von Erlach en 1742, los arquitectos locales de Timisoara, Theodor Kostka y Alexander Steinlein, asumieron el papel principal en el proyecto. La pintura de San Jorge en el altar mayor es obra de Miguel Ángel Unterberger, mientras que el órgano fue realizado por el maestro austriaco, Carl Leopold Wegenstein.

There is so much to say about our private tour to Timisora from Belgrade with Konstantin from Victor Tours. As 2 ladies in our early 30s a full day tour with a random man in a car was a daunting thought however we shouldnt have worried. From the moment he collected us in his spacious Skoda it felt like a trip out with your cool uncle. He was respectful, chatty, extremely knowledgeable. He made sure we were fully prepared at boarder crossings, had regular stops during the 3 hours drive each way for water and toilet breaks. He was always happy to take photos of us at pretty areas. He showed us around Timisora at a great pace and actually missed his company when we had our 2 hours alone time roaming the town. The only down side was he drove abit too slow in the big roads for my liking, many people were over taking us however he was spending more time teaching us the history of Serbia and Romania and anything else we asked for, so it was a safety thing for him I think then a timing issue. Even after we finished the tour he kept helping us out, he knew we didnt have a good your with another company I Belgrade so he sent over recommendations for where to go for dinner and drinks away from the tourist bohemian quarter. He even checked in with us later that evening to see how it went. I think this will be a working relationship that we will continue growing the next time we visit the region. The agency which took care of the trip and details was very organized. They provided all of the details prior to the trip and I felt very comfortable. My driver (Uros) was on time and greeted me with a smile smile and handshake. He was friendly, personally and nice. We had a great driver to Timisoara and he gave me a history lesson as we left Belgrade and another as we entered Timisoara. He gave me ample time to take photos and to explore on my own. The city was beautiful and well worth the trip!!! Uros got me there safe and back to Belgrade on time I could not have asked for a better tour nor a better guide
The tour was fantastic I would 100% recommend the drive between Serbia and Romania is fascinating to see the countryside (For an Australian at least) and the city of Timisoara is stunning from the banks of the river to the main square, the Orthodox Church and the museum of the 1989 revolution. I must recommend to anyone interested in history, and beautiful old towns and historical cities. I also had a fantastic tour guide, who was really well versed in the history of the region.
We did this day trip to Timisoara not knowing exactly what to expect. We loved it! Despite the terrible weather we experienced that day, the city is full of surprises. Its relatively small but the history and architecture are amazing. Our guide (Drazen) could not have been any better. If at all possible, I would recommend requesting him to be your guide. He's polite, punctual, very knowledgeable and speaks English perfectly as he used to live in the US. We visited three countries on this trip to Europe and Timisoara was a nice surprise for us.

Radenko arrived at my hotel perfectly on time and was very knowledgeable about the areas of Serbia and Romania that we drove through. The drive is a few hours, but it really flew by quickly and was in a comfortable car. Once we arrived in the city, I was given a tour of all of the major attractions and then he arranged my ticket at the museum of the revolution, gave me an amazing recommendation for lunch at a brewery with fantastic food, and a time to meet back at the car for the drive back across the border and back to my hotel. I was very thankful to have that free time as the official itinerary for this tour only states 30 minutes at the museum and I was able to really take my time and see all of the exhibits.
