David was excellent! One of the best tours We have experienced. He was very knowledgeable and was able to explain Portuguese symbolism. He knows his stuff. He learns your preferences and caters the tour accordingly. One of the Beat in Portugal!
Dear Vipul, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra tour. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of your trip and I only wish you had known me before so I could provide other experiences. Looking forward to seeing you in the future for more adventures! Best Regards, David Monteiro
David was en excellent host. He started by asking us to describe the perfect experience. After that short conversation we were off. We focused on trying to understand Portugal and the Portuguese culture. David was a great communicator. He described what we were visiting, why it is important and why he took us there. He was patient and made sure we had sufficient time at each stop. His food recommendations were on point. We had a great meal in a small family restaurant away from the tourist spots. And he brought us to get some incredible Portuguese pastries (before, during, and after lunch). :-) David's vehicle was large and super comfortable! David was a very safe driver. I would strongly encourage visitors to utilize his services. We are sad that we only booked one tour with him because he can take you anywhere in Portugal and still have that local feel. By far this was the best tour guide experience we have had.
Dear Chris, Thank you so much for your detailed review of our (unfortunately only) tour. The way to know what to provide as an experience is trying to know what people like to do. That is always what I like doing. My tours are never the same. We are all different and like different things so it is important to understand what each person enjoys to be able to deliver the best experience. Did you mention food? Pastries? Of course that is part of the portuguese experience! Glad you enjoyed them. I am glad you got to experience my brand new SUV, which everyone can try if they book the Premium tour. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Best Regards, David Monteiro
David was one of the best tour guides I’ve had in years (not just in Portugal but in all of Europe). He spoke very clearly, was able to get us to the fronts of lines that were otherwise very long/would have taken hours to get through, and had all of the best “secret” spots to visit within Sintra. Even within the public parks and palaces we visited, he knew exactly when/where to go to get the best experience and made our trip many levels better because of it. He did a fantastic job of avoiding the big crowds when possible, knew when/where to stop to give you the best view of the sites and provide historical facts, and giving you an experience that felt personal. Overall, he was a very kind and personable guy, was super passionate/proud of his country, and truly taught me about Portugal in a way that I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere else.
Dear Connor, Thank you so much for your great review of our Sintra Tour. It is very flattering to know I was one of the best guides you've had in years. Having a Tour Guide with you in places like Sintra is super valuable as you know, because I managed to skip some lines, guide you through some of the very touristy places in a breeze. Knowing the dynamics of the crowds also helps managing our time at each place. You are right, I am a very passionate/proud person in what concerns my country and my job. Feel free to come back with your family to see more of this beautiful country. Best Regards, David Monteiro
We had an amazing experience on this tour - recommend it to anyone visiting Portugal. The day was planned well, taking us through the town of Sintra, then along the coast to Cascais. We had a great lunch with a view overlooking the Atlantic. David made the experience exceptional. He was incredibly well-informed and shared history and insight throughout the day. You could tell he really knew his stuff, which made everything even more enjoyable.
Dear Elizabeth, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra Tour. I had a great time showing you and your family the beautiful places of my hometown. Your friendliness and kindness also made my day exceptional and I thank you for that. It is because of people like you that I have to challenge myself at all times to make sure no question is left unanswered. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future! Best Regards, David Monteiro
We met David 5 years ago which was the tail end of Covid and he was on time, professional and knowledgeable with driving us to cascais, Sintra, Nazare and several cities along the way. We contacted David again and again over the past 5 years for various tours with last one being in March of 2026 to Pena Palace and Sintra. He has several cars depending on the number in your group. Cars/vans are always clean and he is extremely knowledgeable and patient with all questions and a safe driver. Bonus: he speaks perfect English! Thank you David for all your work - we highly recommend you!
Dear Neda, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra tour and our last 5 years exploring Portugal. It is a pleasure showing you and Sam the best Portugal has to offer. Looking forward to many more tours in the future. Best Regards, David Monteiro
Our tour with David was outstanding from start to finish. His communication was excellent—prompt, clear, and attentive from booking through follow-up. He customized the itinerary to our preferences while also showing us hidden gems in Sintra and Cascais we would have otherwise missed. His recommendations for sightseeing and dining were spot-on, and his professionalism and flexibility made the day seamless and memorable. We highly recommend David and look forward to booking with him again.
Great communication from the company well beforehand. They wanted to find out what sights we wanted to spend more time with because you can’t tour everything (multiple sites) in a day. They routed our itinerary with Belem at the end, where we asked to be dropped off because we were doing a sunset sailing cruise. Two other companies refused to alter their itinerary, even though this was a private tour. Guide/driver was wonderful. Excellent English, knowledgable, safe driver, clean comfortable car.
Dear Jill, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra tour. We always ask our guests if they have anything specific they want to see as all our tours are private, so very flexible and we allow for any changes you want. With that said, I am still shocked some of the companies you reach out to wouldn't let you end in Belém for your sunset cruise. Thank you for your compliments. I look forward to welcoming you or anyone you recommend us to in the near future. Best Regards, David Monteiro
We had an excellent day touring all of the key sights around Lisbon. Our tour guide did a great job in helping us pick the key things we wanted to visit in the time that we had available. It was a wonderful day, thank you David.
Dear Simon, Thank you very much for your review of our Sintra tour. This was a great day with amazing weather and all you needed to see according to your interests. I am very happy you enjoyed your day and would love to see you back in the future. All the best! David Monteiro
We took a private tour of Sintra with David, and this was one of the best tour experiences we’ve ever had! David’s passion for tourism and providing best-in-class service was apparent from our first contact through the end of the journey. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had a thoroughly enjoyable time, providing the perfect mix of historical information, cultural experience, and fun throughout the day. I appreciate that he tailored the itinerary to the things that we most wanted to see and made sure we were able to fit in all of those elements. As a local expert, he was able to guide us to the best spots for viewing, touring, dining, and shopping, while avoiding long lines and waits at the more popular attractions. Thank you, David, for a very memorable time!
Dear Teri, Thank you so much for your review of our Sintra tour. It was definitely an amazing day as we lucked out with the weather which obviously can be tricky in February. Loved the fact that I could show you the Pena Palace without big crowds as we definitely enjoyed ourselves a lot more. Tailoring the itinerary is always something I love doing. Nobody is the same and we all like different things, so to me it is important to make my guests' experience as curated as possible. I would like to thank you and John for being such amazing guests and will look forward to your return. Best Regards, David Monteiro
My husband and I took the Private Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca and Cascais Full Day tour with David. It was an absolutely awesome day! David picked us up at our hotel in a roomy sedan (van also available if needed) and drove us to Sintra. He is so knowledgable about the area (he lives in Sintra) and the culture and history of Portugal. We started with the Pena Palace, and David, as a tour guide, is able to get skip the line tickets, so we were the first to enter the palace. Impossible to describe, but a beautiful and interesting place. David also tailored our tour: it was a rainy day, and we decided we'd rather not walk around the gardens of the Quinta da Regaleira in the rain, so we pivoted to the National Palace, which was really interesting, especially the kitchens and the Coat-of-Arms-Room. He took us to a wonderful bakery where we tried travesseiro, the pastry of Sintra. So delicious! From there we headed over to the coast, with David pointing out other interesting sites along the way. We had lunch near Azenhas do Mar (cliffside town-what a view) at a family restaurant, very good and reasonably priced. Last stops were Cabo da Roca, which has a beautiful ocean view at the western-most point of Europe (David knew the spots for the best photos) and Cascais, a beachside town. We then headed back to Lisbon. When we return to Portugal, we will certainly ask David to guide us. Highly recommend David and the What to do in Portugal tour company!
Dear Marcie, Thank you so much for your very detailed review of our Sintra tour. It was indeed a rainy day, but I tried to adapt it in a way that we could avoid most of it and we certainly did. Went to the Pena Palace for the first time slot, saw everything with no rain and when it started raining we went to the National Palace, where we spent a while indoors so it didn't really affect us at all. Of course you can't go to Sintra without trying the traditional pastries so we had to eat a travesseiro. When it comes to food, we always recommend local family owned restaurants or anything within your requests. I've had many people asking for seafood with a view and I am happy to cater to their request because we don't have any affiliations with restaurants or shops, allowing us to go anywhere we wish. Will be looking forward to having you back here to explore other parts of Portugal. Best Regards, David Monteiro
