Our tour guide David took us an hour drive outside of Mazatlan to the cutest town, el Quelite. Here we learned about day of the dead traditions, had a tour of a local bakery, made salsa and tortillas, and wandered the town. David was the best tour guide for us. He was friendly and informative, he was happy to go with the flow and do whatever worked best for us. This was the highlight of our cruise to Mexico. All 10 of us want to come back to El Quelite. One thing to note is make sure you bring pesos, that far out of the tourist track they didn't all take credit cards or US money.
Emily!!! Thank you, I also had a great time with you and your family. Going to those little villages outside Mazatlán is always great, gives us the opportunity to share some of our traditions and culture that we love. And the restaurant, El Mesón de los Laureanos, is just the best. Hope to see you and your family again Emily.
El Quelite village is about a 40 minute drive from Mazatlan. It was further than I had anticipated, but worth the time. Our driver, Luis, was great. He was very friendly and accommodating. The salsa and fresh tortillas were fun to make and even more fun to eat!
Wonderful tour. We had 12 people total including 5 kids (ranging from 4-13) and a few older generation (70+). Our guide was super informative, and showed us around the town. Would book it again!
Hugely disappointed in this experience. Driver, van and timing were great, the problem was the experience. We were of the impression we were going to learn how to make authentic Mexican salsa and tortillas from old Mexican woman who have had their recipes passes down from generations. Exciting, right! We were taken to a popular and busy restaurant, where we were injected into the process. Meaning, the production line was already in full swing. We didn't learn how to make anything, we just assembled what was already prepared. We could have done that at home. Way too much money for very little value. Was a big disappointment to our Mexico trip.
Thank you for taking your time to write a review Rick. We cover all the itinerary points: Ulama game monument, virgen de Guadalupe church, and restaurant. We actually added 3 more stops on your tour: tropic of cancer monument ( because your were going to Ecuador soon), rooster farm and bakery, in this last one you didn't like the idea that there was no bread or pastries, but I informed you about this before and gave you more day options for your tour, but you didn't care. Rick, as we talked on the vehicle driving back, this is not a cooking tour, as the itinerary shows: "you will have a set up to make your own salsa and tortillas with all local ingredients", you will have roasted tomatoes and jalapeños, garlic, salt, onion and cilantro, so you can make it at a Molcajete. You also had the flour to make tortillas with your hand. We honestly apologize if what you were looking was to go to the field and cut the tomatoes and corn to make everything. You were not injected into the process, they actually made a set up on a private area just for us so you can make salsas and tortillas. About the salsas and tortillas recipes shared for generations, Rick, it's a salsa made with tomatoes, jalapeños, garlic, salt, onion and cilantro, the attractive part of the tour is the environment, the set up made, you can check that on the dozens of pictures that you took on the tour. We apologize again for not covering your expectations, but we actually cover all the tour's itinerary and actually add 3 more stops for you.
Had an amazing time. David was punctual van was comfortable newer model and air conditioning was perfect!!! He had refreshments for us and was very knowledgeable on area and El Quelite. His instructions prior to trip were right on and we felt very safe throughout the trip. The restaurant was amazing food was the best. Decor was traditional and there was so many dishes to choose from. Would do it again in a heart beat. Don’t miss this chance to see a little town with home cooking. If i could i would give ten stars!
Daniel was a great tour guide! He was knowledgeable and his vehicle was very comfortable. We had a great day with him. He took us to memorable locations and we had a wonderful time. I highly recommend booking a tour with Daniel!
Thank you very much Jonathon, I had a great time with you also, hope to see you again.
