Across ten days in Naxos and Athens this was far and away the best and most memorable thing I did. My guide was Manos, who owns Aurelia e-assist Bikes, for which I felt lucky. For what you are getting on this tour, the cost is incredibly reasonable. Let me speak of these amazing bikes for a moment: Your guide will show you the bikes and give you very clear instructions on how they work. If I recall the bikes were all step-through and some but not all had baskets on the back (I asked for a basket to stash my backpack). You DO need to know how to ride a bike, and especially how to ride a bike when you are around cars. That is important. But these bikes are very easy to ride. They aren't mountain bikes, where you're hunched forward--you can sit basically upright and take a look around you. The bikes ride smooth like the road e-bikes you can rent in most big cities now. Manos has invented these particular style of e-bikes, to my understanding, and I was a big fan. There are two main settings you can adjust--how much power the motor is giving you, in a gradient from 1 to 5 so you can really get it exactly where you want it, and change it easily as you get on and off of steeper hills (I never had to go above a 3), and you can also change the torque resistance, as in, how hard it feels to pedal, which is again something that can be adjusted in a gradient to your exact preference. The seat was comfortable for me and my big bum, but I ride several hundred miles on a similar ebike a year, so take that into consideration. If I lived in Greece I have no doubt I would purchase one of these bikes because they worked equally well on bumpier gravelly roads as they did on paved surfaces--a real feat for an electric road bike. In addition, Manos as our guide was very good at giving detailed instructions on navigating the sometimes narrow roads of Naxos Town and beyond. We did about 22 miles altogether--a very easy 22 miles that my body didn't feel at all that night or the next day, because the e-assist on these bikes is fantastic. You are sharing the road with cars, but your guide is used to this and will tell you what to do and make sure you are safe. The cars who passed on the little roads out in the more rural areas were very polite and I never felt unsafe. And the tour itself! We visited a handful of different places, the highlight being a vineyard with truly delicious wine and fermented foods. I felt like I was traveling with friends and really felt immersed in Naxian life. I learned a lot about Naxos from the perspective of people who live on the island year 'round, who have grown up here and are raising their families here and care deeply about what will happen to the island. And the thrill of biking along the absolutely gorgeous landscapes of Naxos--you will see such sights, and then around the corner you will see more sights, and you won't have a dirty tour bus window or tiny rental car interior in the way. If you're visiting Naxos and you're comfortable on a bike, don't miss this.
Thank you so much for this detailed review, it really helps potential guests understand what we do and why we do it!! stay safe and happy travels!
A great way to see the villages and local winery. Our highlight was the private tour and tasting at a local family owned organic winery. Paired with a light lunch - it was a perfect day!
Thank you so much Laurie! Happy travels to your lovely family 💚🚴♀️
This was a unique and fun way to see some of the inner valleys near the port without renting a car. The e-bikes were easy to use and made the hills a non-issue. Manos was a warm and friendly guide, who gave us earpieces so he could narrate and communicate while we were riding. He took us to see an ancient statue, an olive oil press/museum, and a working farm, explaining how they make wine and cheese. Finally a light lunch at a local taverna where we ate and drank the fruits of the farm. A lovely and memorable day!
Thank you so much Pamela, stay safe and keep exploring!
This was an incredible experience and highly recommend. Manos and his e-bikes are a fabulous way to see Naxos! The bikes are very easy to use and with the headsets, you feel very safe as Manos is able to communicate with you throughout the tour. We visited a lovely winery that seems to have adapted beautifully to the environmental challenges Naxos faces. We also went to Halki and explored the village, visited an 11th century church, and had an amazing local dessert. Great way to discover Naxos!
Thank you so much for your kind words, stay safe and happy travels!
Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, patient and understanding with every tiny issue that arose. When I had a little accident and my knee kissed the pavement(my mistake, fully!) he was caring, made sure everything was ok and helped me. Afterwards he still trusted me and was kind just like before. He was very knowledgeable about the island and passionate about his home. Which is amazing. He showed us so much beauty and gave us experiences I still happily think back to, fondly. I will definitely do another tour with them this year.
Thank you so much! Stay safe and happy travels! 💚
If we could give 10 stars we would! An unforgettable excursion with a guide who loves his land The excursion is much more than a bike ride...we discover Naxos off the beaten track The visit to the winegrower is worth the detour..very nice discovery with passionate people We highly recommend this excursion
Samantha! Thank you so much, i really enjoyed the day with you as well! Safe travels 💚
My friend and I did an inland bike tour, and Manos was informative but not too serious. He took us to all sorts of secret gems in Naxos. The mountains are beautiful! He even catered for my gluten-free requirements, which was awesome! Bloody amazing team, company, and bikes are perfect for the journey.. I would give more stars if TA had them.. It's such a perfect way to see this gorgeous place. The video they send you after is just the icing on the cake. Superb! Thank you..
Thank you so much! Happy and safe travels! 💚🚴♀️
We loved our tour with Manos. The Aurelia bikes were fun to ride, and the areas we rode in perfectly suited to biking, and the e-bikes made the hilly climbs easy and comfortable. We loved the visit to the winery with the amazing tasting of snacks, olive oil and wines. Such a beautiful spot! Loved the ride to the village of Chalki and walking around the old church. It was a great combo of riding with some visiting, eating, a very nice balance. We truly enjoyed our time with Manos, it was a memorable experience for the ride and the personal touches. We felt like we had spent the day riding around with a local friend! It was a great experience and now, a wonderful memory!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Hope to see you again soon in one of our tours! Stay safe 💚
