July 4th Tall Ship Parade. Received phone call July 3rd evening telling us to be at Pier 17 at 6 am on 7/4, departing 6/30 am. Over 100 people arrived. We were told we couldn’t use the sails, due to an unfortunate incident the night before - boat hit by a squall, sails ripped. Offered refund if we opted out. We were also informed that our boat would dock back at Pier 36, on the Hudson, an hour later, therefore 1:30 - slight change of plans, but not a big deal. Proceeded to move out into NY Harbor. Spent several hours watching the tall ships sail by. Our boat was supposed to be an “escort” boat to one of the tall ships. We were to sail up the Hudson, to the GW Bridge, and then return to Pier 36. Instead, with no explanation, we never went up the Hudson, therefore missing a chance to view the skyline and see the ships up closer, but returned to Pier 17 at 12:30. Again, no explanation given. I have emailed twice, expressing my disappointment, and have heard nothing from them. I even wrote that I don’t do Google reviews, because I know the damage it can cause a company. Asked them to respond to my emails, and left my phone number as well. Nothing. After reading the most recent reviews, I regret having booked with Manhattan By Sail, and strongly urge others to steer clear of them.
No one showed up from the tour company at the designated meeting place to take me to the ship and the ship wasn't at Pier 17 like it was supposed to be so I wasn't able to go on the sail around New York Harbor. I called their contact ph# twice only got voicemail, left messages but no one ever returned my call. I'm extremely disappointed and angry that I missed this opportunity that I was so much looking forward to and I expect to have a full refund.
This trip was cancelled by the cruise personnel due to the Captain not being available for the 5:15pm tour. Just want my money returned
We did not go on a June 7th day cruise on the Clipper City with Manhattan By Sail as the trip was cancelled by the operator! We were fortunate to have booked with TripAdvisor as we were able to receive a full refund with a 24 hour+ notice. The operator, however, when offering us another cruise (Jazz at night) in lieu of the day cruise noted that there were NO REFUNDS available only future credit! It is unfortunate as we live on the West Coast and had booked several events for the 4 days in NYC and did not have another time available for the cruise.
This was not an elegant cruise as expected. It was pleasant and the crew was nice enough. But the boat was very overcrowded…the owners themselves brought a big group, and there was not ample seating. Disappointed in the value for money. Also, my pre-ordered fruit and cheese tray was not provided nor refund provided.
We had a lovely experience onboard! Tom, the owner, was especially exceptional and made our experience very memorable. I've already recommended the sail to friends and colleagues!
It was very disappointing. We had relatives from Arizona, and little kids (and their parents) who live in Queens, and ourselves, ALL of whom would have been interested to know what we were seeing.! What's on Governor's Island? What's that big building with blue at the top? Etc. AND to learn about sailing, the names of the sails, which one goes up first and why, the wind condition. Etc. AND about the boat itself, its design, what kind of people used it in the early days. Etc. etc. NOTHING from the crew. Really disappointing.
Great way to view the city and the Statue. We had a beautiful clear day and it’s always cooler on the water in the summer. There’s nothing like seeing the boat pulled along by those massive sails and the wind.
Great fun, amazing to watch the crew work the sails, very stable in the water, no need for sea legs, great view of statue, good bar, suitable for all ages
The boat was fine - decently equipped, clean enough, nice bar and restrooms. The staff was fairly dismissive and not terribly friendly. Moreover, we would have really enjoyed some audio explanation of the sights we were seeing. It really was just a party boat with no context/history/explanation of anything.
