Manu and Johnny were fantastic guides. They were very respectful of the whales and were very strict in following the laws.
Extremely disappointing and completely unacceptable customer service. I booked a whale-swimming excursion with Moorea Expedition for Saturday, September 26, 2026, and received a confirmed reservation in February, 2026. After making plans around this experience, Moorea Expedition suddenly canceled my booking. If you are planning a trip for the whales, you know how important it is to book well in advance and even in February for 1 person the options were extremely limited. Their explanation makes the situation even more frustrating. In their own email, they acknowledged that September 26 should never have been available for booking because they are not running shared tours from September 24–29. They said this happened because of an error in their reservation system and that they were therefore canceling all bookings during that period. I completely understand that mistakes happen. What I find unacceptable is the way this was handled. The customer is the one who paid for the reservation, received a confirmation, and reasonably relied on it — yet the burden of their mistake was simply dumped back on me. Their solution was essentially to tell me that they “thankfully caught” the error and that I should have enough time to find another whale tour. That is not a solution. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to French Polynesia, and whale swimming was something I specifically planned ahead for. Finding another operator this close to the date is not as simple as casually booking another excursion. All of the solution for other companies they recommend are already full. What bothers me most is the lack of ownership. There was no meaningful attempt to help find a replacement, no offer to contact one of their partner operators on my behalf, and no accommodation for the inconvenience their system error created. Instead, I received a cancellation and a list of operators I could contact myself. If your reservation system allows customers to book dates when you are not actually operating, that is your company’s responsibility — not the customer’s. I would strongly recommend that anyone booking with Moorea Expedition double-check directly with them that their reservation is actually valid, because apparently a confirmed booking does not necessarily mean they will honor it. A mistake in a booking system is understandable. Making the customer absorb all of the consequences of that mistake is not. 1 star. Extremely disappointing experience before the trip even began.
We had an incredible day with Moorea expedition. The guides were great and very knowledgeable and we saw lots of whales very quickly, including a breach in the distance. We then swam with a mother and calf and had multiple interactions which were incredible! We then also got taken to the lagoon to swim with sharks and rays which was a nice end to the trip. Would highly recommend and worth the money. It’s all very highly regulated in Moorea and you can tell everyone has a lot of respect for the whales which was great to see! A real bucket list trip
This must’ve been the best experience of our holiday so far. The guide and captain were friendly, knowledgable and very respectful towards the whales. This created the ultimate natural experience which made seeing these creatures in person even more majestic.
It is important to know that the whales are in charge here-they choose when and if they show up! But, having knowledgeable guides sure does help! Willie and Louis were wonderful and helped us have the best experience-once in a lifetime for sure
It was a great experience event though we saw no whales and it was very rough seas, we got to swim with dolphins
Once in a lifetime experience swimming with a mom and baby whale! Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and gave clear instructions to ensure we were safe and also able to get very up close and personal! Would highly recommend Moorea Expeditions for this experience!
The trip out to see the whales was amazing , what was even more amazing was the grace and peace these gentle creatures have
Guide and Captain were skilled and made our experience safe and amazing. You need to be comfortable in the water and confident using mask and snorkel. You have to swim fast and be aware of your surroundings
Great Experience. Saw the humpback whales despite being in the end of the season. Great guide who followed the rules and respected the animals
